Paypal Question (Scam)
Okay so I put my iphone 4 on ebay and someone bid $2000 on it lol. If the payment clears and i transfer the money to my bank account. Can paypal take the money out of my account if it turns out to be a scam?

Yep, I think they can. Ideally, you should have a dedicated checking account hooked to Paypal, one that isn't even at your usual bank. Treat it as a "pass through", keeping no money in there at all. Once a payment is there, you pull the money out.
Not just for things like this, but it prevents your account from being drained if your PP account is hacked.

Paypal can make your account negative but I dont believe that they can actually remove money from your bank account.
OTOH, if I remember correctly, it takes weeks for paypal to release the money without a shipping tracking number. Even if you provide the tracking number they still hold the cash in a freeze for a week or so. Its for buyer protection. Chances are that its a scam and the person charged a fake CC or something. I'd just ignore it. Chances are you'll just wind out without any cash and without and iphone. |

Don't do it... it's a scam.
You'll end up with no money and no iphone. As mentioned Paypal will actually hold on to the money for something up to 20 days unless they get the go ahead from the buyer that everything is good. It's kind of a crock, but it is meant to protect the buyer from sending money and then getting no goods in return. If it is legit (and I'm sure it isn't) just get a wire transfer of the funds. You can definitely pay whatever the associated fees are out of all of your profits.. LOL. |

If a buyer opens a dispute they reverse the transfer to your bank account, unless you have funds in Paypal to cover the dispute.
The buyer has 45 days to make a claim. A common scam is to buy something on a credit card used the first time through paypal then do a charge back with the bank saying the card was used without authorization. Check the sellers feedback, if it is 0 I would be concerned. I know because I have been scammed before. |

Pull the money out and close the bank account. Paypal can't do shit beyond that. Paypal needs to up their bullshit security practices, and this will teach them to stop being so laissez faire with it.
If you close the account they can say you owe them 2000 but that's the end of it, they can't put a hit on your credit (depending on what all info you gave them), and they can't do much besides have a balance against you. (if you can't tell I hate paypal) |

One thing i hate about paypal is that in some instances you have to send your item them the buyer has to say the item is good then youll get your money. How does paypal know if the damn buyer tampered with the item. It is retarded they need to protect the seller aswell.

if you haven't already seen the paypal scam 'emails', I'm betting 10:1 that's what you ACTUALLY get. not a paypal email, an email from 'paypal' (i.e. a scam site) saying you got the money in escrow, and you have to ship it.

Yeah I saw your ad. The buyer has 0 feedback and is no longer a registered user. Probably did it to a few others before being caught by eBay. Time to re-list.
