Ya that might be their style but I still expected more from a US soldier, especially since he went at it with some uneducated, malnourished Afghan guy or kid... How much technique could there be in this style of wrestling? |

obviously more than you give him credit for.. That soldier that everyone is saying is an embarrassment, went through months of h2h combat training.

It was easy to me to see that the US guy had the mentality "I can muscle this scrawny Afghan kid to the ground." then the kid shifted his hips/weight a bit when the soldier tried to lift him, and came out on top.

Ugh, never post an arm if you're going to be taken down. I've seen breaks like that before and it takes months to get back to 100%.

Alot...I don't know anything about the soldier or the Afghan guy's training. But, there's a guy that sometimes trains at our gym (BJJ) that is about six feet tall, but must weigh only about 130lb. He can take me down whenever he wants to. Technique is a huge part of wresting/grappling, size is a very small factor

HAHA this is pretty funny. The soldier obviously thought he was gonna win easily, but has no backgroud at all. I dont care how much h2h combat training he has, its not wrestling.
You dont give any credit to the Afghan guy, but he definitely knows what he is doing. The soldier tries to wrestle with just his arms, and more than anything its about your hips. Notice both time when the soldier goes down its because the Afghan has his overhook side leg in between the soldiers two legs. There is soo much positioning involved, and you cant learn that in just a few weeks in basic training or whatever. Sorry, for the lengthy comment, studying wrestling film is kinda what I do, so those small details are easy to point out haha.

BTW, just what I could see. That soldier never had a chance. His hips were out of it the entire time. Anyone with any takedown experience/technique would have taken him down. I don't think its embarrassing at all, he just got schooled in something he doesn't train in. no biggie really. |

I only started in January but I've had to take the last few months off because I was taking summer classes. I've competed in the small in-house tournaments we have and I plannned on going to Pan Ams. With the time I've taken off though I'm not sure if I'll be ready, we'll see...
