I know there are a lot of Porsche fans here on BimmerPost.com… so I thought I would treat you to a very special museum. This is a MUST SEE place when coming to Germany – I think. In fact I saw THREE M3’s on ED tour while driving around near Porsche Musuem.

Ok, onto my photo tour…

Spectacular job capturing the photos. Love the plaza, with the original building, HQ, Museum, and Factory Dealership. I would love to visit that place.

I thought I would share some (more) of my photos of the Porsche museum. These photos are of the old original museum. It was really tiny, but charming and special, I kind of miss the old museum. It was located on the factory grounds… so you always got to see some “fresh” Porsches being tested out on the public streets of Zuffenhausen.

The old brick building is the current customer service dept in Werk-I. This is where the "special wishes dept" was located and where very special Porsche customers can take their car in for service or exclusive options to be installed. When I was there in 2001 I saw THREE 959's with USA tags on them. One from CA and two from Nevada I think.

Enjoy,
Dackel

Some of the street signs pointing you to Porsche.

On the B10 coming from the A-81 autobahn.

Signs to where the old museum was located…

Old museum entrance was just to the right of photo…

The old museum’s entrance…

Inside the factory, just under the old museum…

The understated entrance to the old museum…

Love those door pulls!

The old charming (small) museum…

959 concept car…

One of my favorite things about the old museum was this wall of models. Every Porsche ever made had its mini model up on that wall!

356-1 the very first car Porsche made in Gmuend, Austria.

Toys big and small…

Back outside on the streets of Zuffenhausen…

Mmmmmm….

HQ building…

Factory run and owned P-Zentrum…

Werk-1 This was where Ferry’s office was. Also the Motorsports Dept was located here. Now it is in Weissach. This is where Porsche Exclusive and the parts dept and special customer cars are serviced.

Inside Werk-I’s service dept…

993TT engine display…

Production bridge that connects the body shop with the final production hall…

Finished production cars awaiting transport to their new owners…

Do they still have the Porsche that was cut into three sections on display on the second floor?

No, I have never seen that car in my many visits there.

The cars that are displayed up on the 2nd floor (like the American roadsters) are always changing. When I first went to the museum they had all the Turbo evolutions of the 911 on those turn tables & steps area.

Feel free to post a pic IF you have one of thise cut up car.

Unbelievable display of cars (and pics)!

Thanks (as usual) for posting them!

The Moby Dick 935, Martini 935 RSR, Rothman's 962's, Ferry's b'day 918, Gulf 917 and a bonus exploded 917 motor all in one roof? My God; I never would have gotten out of that place! Makes the odd 930 seem humdrum!

Tell me, how cool would it be to work in the Porsche Musuem's restoration shop?

Fantastic post,

ianc

Almost as cool as working in BMW's restoration shop.

Those "new 996's" were taken back in 2005 - I think. They were parked out back awaiting export to the USA and Canada. The German market cars stay inside. lol

Those photos of the old museum were taken back in 2004 & '05. The new mega museum opened in fall of 2007. Thats why the photos are smaller bc I had a lower pixel digital camera back then.

I went there a few months after Porsche opened the new Musuem in 2007. I have been fortunate enough to visit the Porsche museum many, many times. I think four or five times already. I lost count of how many times I visited the old Museum. First time was in 1991 for me. Anytime I am near Stuttgart I make it a point of stopping by.

Besides the new Porsche Museum being on anyones Bucket List... I would also say MB's Musuem in near by Untertürkheim (also in Stuttgart) just across town - is a MUST SEE place. And of course BMW's Welt and Musuem too.

Awesome photo's and info! You really did a nice job. It is not easy to get all those shot's at the Museum as you did. I was there in Aug of this year as well as the MBZ museum across town while attending one of the factory Porsche driving tours.

^^Thanks. Yes, the MB Musem is quite nice. I also enjoy going to Ssheim's Technik Musuem only about 30 minutes from Stuttgart.

You might be interested in seeing some of the other cool auto musuems I have been to in Germany. Have you seen this thread?

I sure did! That is where I found this thread. You have been blessed for sure! Bastard!

Have you been up to the ring? Did not get a chance this summer to go myself, but that is still on my bucket list! Really would like to order a new car and pick it up over there, and drive around touring for a couple of weeks and then ship it back here.

To drive a new M3 or 911 on the ring and then head south for the Alps and in to Italy would be a dream holiday! Well one can dream... and it keep's me getting up in the morning to make the doughnuts!!

Sometimes the Porche Museum has on display Ferry's red B-day 914. It had a flat 8-boxer motor with 300 PS and quad headlights. Piech also loved the idea of a flat eight 914 that he had the boys at Porsche build him one too. But Piech's had more power!!

I have not seen a 993 GT2 inside the P-Museum. Only on the grounds of the factory in Zuffenhausen or at the IAA.

But here are some cool Porsche racers, Enjoy...
