Beemer or Bimmer

I think I saw somewhere that motorcycles are beemers and cars are bimmers. Anyone able to explain the difference or origin of the difference?

I always pronounced it Beemer, but I don't say that much anyway. I just saw BMW.

Wow, the guy that wrote the article is really, uh, uptight.

On the other hand, it drives me crazy when people say things the wrong way.

"I could care less"
"...for all intensive purposes"
"probly"
"supposebly"
"nucular"
"aks"

So, I've been walking around calling 4-wheeled BMWs "beemers" all this time. Dang. I hate myself.

damn, Matt, I agree with you SOOO much on those common mistakes.

I HATE that shit. Like "Heighth".

Anyway, just call it a "Bay Emm Vay". That's the correct German Pronunciation of the letters.

So wouldn't it then be a "bay"mer?
