Early Jan. Vacation.. Where to Go?

i have a chance to take a little time off the first week of january, but i'm stumped as to what relaxing/fun places there are to go. my gf enjoys just about any type of travel, so she's open to anything.

i'm thinking warm climate, maybe tropical, but i'm OK with a wintery location as long as there's plenty to do.

ideas?

If it really is only a few days you'll want to limit your time on a plane (maximizing your time in the sunshine). If you've never been I'd go to Cabo... sraight shot from Norcal and not a bad place to go to once for a few days. More than a few days it gets kind of borring IMO.

Just stay in one of those monster all-inclusive places on the beach and you'll be set.

When people ask me for mini vacation advice I always recommend the Caribbean. My favorite Caribbean spot, so far is the Island of Roatan, Honduras. Google West Bay Roatan. Our money goes along way there.

What about Costa Rica? I've heard great things about the country...and it shouldn't be more than a 6 hour flight or so from Cali.

I've been to like 8 islands in the Caribbean and my favorite by a long shot is Turks & Caicos. They speak English, use the US dollar, and are EXTREMELY friendly. Find a hotel on Grace Bay and just relax. Gorgeous place.

I've done 3 weeks in Costa Rica as well. Volcanoes were awesome and the beaches were cool but I was there when I was like 15 so I imagine a lot has changed (I'm 29 now).
