help with used tire value

Yes, I want this in off-topic. I already have them for sale in New England (with the wrong size in the headline, can't edit) and these don't fit a 3-series.

I'm trying to help a friend get rid of a set of snows from her 5 series. They are Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds, 225-50-17. She said she only put 8000 miles on them but they measure somewhat worn, 7/32-6/32-6/32-5/32 out of a new spec 11/32 (per tire rack for current model). The other thing is even though she got them like 3 years ago (I think), the tread pattern looks much different than the 3Ds I had for my Mazda6 (205-50/17) and now on my 328 (225-45/17). So I don't know if the dealer unloaded an old set on her, or if the 98 load rating is a different style?

Anyway, these go for $177 new each at the tire rack, what do you think would be a fair price for the set of 4, local pickup? (I'm guessing it's not worth shipping)

8,000 miles of spirited driving on warm dry pavement maybe... From the looks of it those are nearly shot.

I wouldn't pay more than $40/ea for them. They have maaaaybe a season left on them at a maximum... but coupled with the fact that whoever buys them has to pay to have them mounted, they might not even be worth the $40 to the new buyer.

Shipping is completely moot on something like that IMO.

You would be luck to get $100 for the set. Those are bald winter tires.

This. You're down to the wear bars in that one shot, and on winters I don't even bother to get that close before replacing. I wouldn't bother with those.

Thanks, guys. That's what I suspected (they're near worthless) but having some independent corroboration will make it easier to explain to my friend.
