When do you fill up?

So just sitting around bored and was thinking about one of my habits people call me an idiot for. Wondering if any of you all do the same.

Do you wait until the last possible gas station to fill up your tank so that you buy a full tank of gas rather then fill up with a 1/4 tank or so? For some reason I prefer to wait until it says I have like 5 or 10 miles on the tank to fill up. (so far never ran out of gas with my old cars but had a few times when the computer said I had 0 miles left for a number of miles)

Also is this bad for my car? I imagine if you run out of gas completely it is not good.

i think if you let your gas tank almost empty, that would stir up the dirt or any other ugly particles to go in your engine.

i'm not sure about the details, but it's pretty bad....

well, again....i dont' know the details, but there's a thread or 2 about this topic, and it was agreed that it's bad for the car or whatever.

maybe you can search for the thread if you have time, i'm a little lazy..

lol I am lazy too, but think of it, if your habit is to leave say always a 1/4 of tank of gas, that 1/4 will accumulate dirts and debris much more than if you " empty" the tank everytime you fill up, two ways to see it, but don't take my word for it, could be 110% wrong...

i just fill up when its cheap...regardless of $5 or $50 to fill...if its around $0.70 (recent asking price) a liter here in toronto, then i'd do it

See old threads. Simple logic refutes the stirred sediment theory.

I pumped it when I can't stand that annoying sound....

"ding ding ding" and the Gas Symbols keeps popping up.

I once drove an extra 25 miles with " - - - " left on the tank.

I usually fill it when the low fuel chime goes off.

I try to keep more than half a tankfull in the car in case of natural emergencies or petrol protests. When on a road trip I'll drive until a quarter tank remains and then start looking for fuel stations. I don't tempt fate on the highway.

I fill it when I remember to. I have never had an issue with running a tank low (other than walking to get a jerry can). As Canuck said, there are filters and screens to ensure that crap doesn't get in the fuel lines.

I put in 20.00 every time after the car says it has 30 miles or less left. the car is heavier with a full tank, ten gallons or so weighs a decent amount.

I usually fill up with 1/4 left. I've never ran out of gas, and hate to run the tank empty.
