335i Vs RX8

Thought I would consider giving up my BMW?
Decided do I really need to have such a expensive car?
Started to think I could get something else almost as nice...
for much less $ and lower my payments, etc etc.

I test drove the Mazda RX8 nice car but not a BMW by a long shot.
I will never complain that my 335i Sedan rides hard on bumps again!
RX8 drives like it has 4 rocks for tires
Guessing being so cold & summer tires is the reason?
Manager started to fill me in about the Rotory engine.
Nope I sure don't want to put qt. of oil every 1200 miles.
Plus Manager says it should not really be a year round car?
Meaning not meant to be driven in winter problems starting etc.

Today I test drive a Infiniti G35x.
I hated this car 2 years ago when I test drove it.
Wow what a difference inside & out for 2007.
Considering it's $10,000 less then loaded 335i it's really nice!
If I decide I really have to go for another car in near future?
Infiniti G35x is really @ top of my list @ this point

Nice car that RX8.. I enjoyed driving it. It basically has all the right stuff plus a really unique smooth engine. It just has one fatal flaw that I can't overlook. It has no torque. It feels well built, handles well, and feels like it wants to go fast. It just doesn't have the brute force to get moving very quickly. 0-60 in this car is well over 6 seconds I believe. If Mazda would put the engine from the Speed3/speed6 in this thing it would have everything.

The G35 is a good car. It's deffinitely no slouch, but no 335i either. It'll be interesting to test drive the new coupe when it comes out.

the RX8 is also a rotary engine, which isn't the most reliable setup as we've seen in the RX7.

G35 is good, if you can't really afford the 335i, might as well go for the G35. Although I gurantee you you'll miss the 335i after a month of not having it.

as former RX-8 owner, I sugguest you get G35 or 335i over RX-8. RX-8 is a nice car but lack of torgue. but there's a huge price gap between them. Is RX-8 starts with $23k?

One I saw & drove was loaded $36,000 & I don't feel it's worth it?
Might be a fun car in summer but in winter I would hate it for sure!

the one I bought was loaded too. the msrp was $34k, but mazda usually has few thousands dollars discount on the RX-8, So I paid $28k out of the door. It was almost 3 years ago.

I disagree with the notion that the 8 is slow. Considering you can go from 0-60 pretty much the whole way in 1st gear, not too suprising. Most tests I see list it's 0-60 time from just under 6 seconds to about 6 and a half.

The main problem I see with the 8 is the shitty gas milage (most people get 18~20 mpg on average), and the abysmal resale value. With that in mind, if you did decide to get one, I would suggest getting a used one. The early models did get off to a rocky start from a mechanical perspective (many service bulletins & recalls on the '04 and earlier engines). But I wouldn't feel bad at all about buying an '06, which you could probably find for a sizable discount.

Torque lb-ft (Nm) at 300(407) / 1400 -5000

Torque lb-ft (Nm) at 159(216) / 5500

I never liked the rx8. Other then its a torquless wonder i don't see the real use of buying one. Totally different worlds imo

Had the rx8... miss it like hell... as for the torque problem, that was taken care of with a greddy turbo...

custom projects, however, lead to custom problems.
as fun as the 8 is to drive, it's a bitch in winter -- esp with the summer tires as well as the hard cold starts... flooding the rotary is also a HUGE problem.

it's as fun to drive as a go-kart... however, it also sucks on gas (about 12mpg with FI) and has a lot of problems. I regretted not getting the s2000, but i just needed the 4 doors.
