Yep the explosion was so great it turned the lights back on....

Also magnesium does not explode it burns really hot...

At first I thought he had magnesium foil he was going to light, and figure it was going to burn through the table. My 8th grade science teach demonstrated how pure magnesium will burn and he too used too much and it burned a whole into the lab table....

The problem is you can not put out a magnesium fire with water.

you are correct that magnesium usually burns, but if compacted tightly into a confined space it would probably explode....just like anything else

and what he has there is reynolds wrap...magnesium foil comes in thin strips
