GTI (MKV) vs. 330i (E90)
which one is faster do you think?
stock vs. stock i was in the GTI forum and got into an arguement for those members, mainly becuase they beleive the GTI is faster... i tried to explain to them and they come up with some 0-60 times that even i haven't seen before, someone said it hits 60 in 6 sec flat....haha now even i'm confused... personally i own both the cars, and i can tell the 330 is faster but i just needed some comments about this.... |

why dont' you get one of your friends/family to race you? you drive the 330i in one race, then GTI the next, to rule out any driver variability

These are EVO Magazine test lap times for the West Circuit at Bedford Autodrome in the UK. BMW 330i msport = 1.30.00 (Mark V) VW Golf R32 = 1.32.55 (Mark V) VW Golf GTi = 1.33.75 The GTi does remarkably well though and pretty much makes the r32 redundant. The standard GTI takes 7.2 secs to reach 62 mph which improves to 6.9 secs with DSG. The 330i gets there in 6.3 secs. Case closed |

the new DSG MKV's do get to 60 in right about 6 flat. up to 6.3 though. they have launch control and pretty impressive. i'd say the 0-60 would be about even...all things considered, but as speeds increased the 330i would start to walk on it hard, turbo cars inherently have a very poor top end. at least comparatively.

You could be right ...
Anyway the GTi is definitely the Mark V EDIT ... just checked the latest edition of EVO and I'm pretty certain the R32 time is for the current model. They have tested both - since the mark iv version was discontinued in 04 I think it's unlikely that they would still post the time for the old car. Especially as it is flagged as the 'best in class'. I should point out that this is a REALLY flattering lap time for the 330i. That's why I like it Last edited by NFS; 02-14-2007 at 01:43 PM.. |

EVO have a long term Mk V R32 on their fleet at the moment. It's been on sale in the UK since Nov 05.

well the r32 is a big dissapointment as the new one @ 250hp is just not what it should have been .... 300 is where they shoudl have taken it or atleast 275. Well everyone is gonnna say thier car is better. 330i is one of the finer pieces of machinery. |

to answer the first question... because it's a mercedes. to answer the second, the boxster handles great and the murcielago is 4wd which handles poorly on a track.
