Dog Lovers: The Story of Miracle *GRAPHIC*
They think he is 2-3 years old
1-11-11 This dog was found as a stray by animal control in an alley. He was so emaciated that he was near death. It is completely unknown at this time if this dog even had an owner as he was not found on anyone's property. He was brought to a vet and is slowly recovering. "Upon arriving at the vet, they discovered how dismal his condition really was....the receiving rescuer told me in his 22 years of rescue experience that he has never seen a dog in such horrible condition. He is BEYOND emaciated....so bad that his eyes are completely sunken in his head and his eyeballs are not even visible. His body temperature was so low that it was not even registering. They immediately tried to start a warm IV with antibiotics and fluids....but there weren't even able to find a vein in his bony body and had to finally insert it into his neck. He was completely void of movement except for his shallow breathing." 1-12-11 As of this morning, he is doing pretty well... eating and drinking on his own. He cannot lift his head or walk yet, but is doing so much better than yesterday when he arrived at our vet. Still cold but temp is up to the high 90's (should be 102). He is eating small amounts and drinking on his own. Some of his values are still very off, but she is not too concerned about that. The vet is completely optimistic, but he still has a long road ahead. 1-13-11 Temp is up to 100.4 and he is still slowly improving. The vet did complete bloodwork today and we will find out the results tomorrow. We cannot thank you enough for all the donations. You have allowed us to do EVERYTHING necessary to give this boy the best care. The vet did x-rays today, and everything looks good, but he has a pellet in him and a wad of wire. We will assess that later. He is eating small amounts of soft food many times a day. His weight has changed from 33 pounds to 48, which is due to rehydrating him and food so that is already amazing. The vet and the vet tech say he is doing well despite what he has been through. He can lift his head, eat, and drink. And he pooped! That was a huge step. They "walk" him a few times a day to try to get him to walk for real. They basically pick him up and try to put weight on his legs. The blood panel results will be in tomorrow, so we will know more then. He should be a regular-sized Dobe at full weight. I made squeaky noises, and he perked his ears up. That made me tear up. He still hasn't wagged his tail, though. Eating a cookie 1-14-11 Miracle's bloodwork results came back. No significant organ issues, but his numbers are "off." We will see how that unfolds with time. He is heartworm negative, so that is huge! He LOVES to eat. He continues to do well, but he still has a long road ahead. For the 3-day weekend, he will go home with the vet tech, who is an IDR+ volunteer and adopter, so he will have 24-hour care. 1-15-11 I think he just pooped 5 lbs this mooring which is great that everything is moving. He still can't stand, but if you think of it he has no muscle mass, so I would'nt be surprised if it takes him a few weeks to get strength. You want to know what will bring tears to your eyes? It's when your big dorky Derby gets up this am and runs over to Miracle's bed lays down next to him, lays his big head on Miracle's head and then gets up and gives him kisses. Now if that isn't some good medicine for healing 1-16-11 He stood with only a little help today for a few moments so he is moving right along. 1-17-11 The vet just called to say he actually walked 5 steps on his own today and let out a little bark. 1-18-11 Miracle is standing on his own and walking around! He is progressing so well! He still needs surgery to fix his eye, get neutered, and remove the wire. It will be months before he is up for adoption. Thank you for your support. 1-19-11 He walked about 25 feet to go outside, and he went potty on his own! He is also showing excitement about playing with other dogs. 1-20-11 Miracle weighs over 50 pounds now, and he has a healthy appetite. 1-21-11 1-22-11 Miracle wagged his tail! 1-25-11 We are happy to announce that Miracle has been cleared to leave the vet tomorrow and go to his new foster home that specializes in special-needs dogs. 1-27-11 Miracle is in his foster home. The green bandage on his front leg has been removed to let his wound heal. He has to wear a cone. We are waiting until we know he is housebroken before we give him all of his wonderful gifts. great story. I hate to see any dog get hurt, it infuriated me when those kids were beating that dog down in south america. Anyone who beats a dog has some serious issues.

I really wish he was closer to Florida to adopt him, but I'm sure this media has already gotten him a nice home once he's fully recovered. Dobermans are one of the most loyal dogs you'll ever own. I had both a rescue as well as one from a breeder and really wouldn't mind another...
