We got a Ipad recently and my mp3 library was a mess. To the point I didn't want to transfer any of my older music over. So many doubles, misspellings, etc. Most of my music was ripped from friends over the years.
Anyways I was really slow last week at work and had more free time then I knew what to do with. I decided to tackle the mess. I found a program that properly renamed 90%+ of my 4k in songs. I did the rest manually. Now my iPod is beautiful! Every artist is listed once, spelled correctly, hardly any doubles(aside from studio/live tracks etc.) and I ripped nearly all of my meaningful CD's. So after taking all this time I was wondering a few things. 1. The program I used renamed the files through the actual file folders. So I shouldn't have to do that again when I transfer everything eventually? The comp the music is on is not too long from being replaced. 2. The manual work I did I renamed through iTunes. Adjusting spelling the program didn't catch, the spaces behind artists name etc. Will I have to redo this in the file folder? 3. I saw there is a way to backup your library but only to disc's, not just to a file folder on an external. Which I would prefer honestly. Any other ways to do a backup so I'm not left renaming everything when I transfer it all to my future macbook when I pull the trigger? Thanks! |

If you're music is bought, which it sounds like it isn't then you should be fine with backing it up. As long as theres no DRM from apple your gold. Literally just get an external hard drive and drag and drop the entire 4gig music folder onto an external.

97% of the music is not bought and from 2005 or older. well before the whole buy your music craze was in full swing.

DRM is digital rights protection. There are ways to strip it from apple bought tunes but its generally a pain in the ass. It wont let you share between computers unless you license the new itunes account and all that mumbo jumbo.

the music i downloaded from itunes i did through the ipad and transfered it to my comp. When i bought the ipad the guy said you can have 5 active itunes accounts to transfer your downloads to. so right now I have 2 accounts. my comp and the ipad. so that shouldn't be an issue, i think haha
