HOUSTON -- Metro is investigating after a teenage girl said her cries for help were ignored when she was targeted by a sexual predator on a light-rail train.

Alexandria Adebanjo, a 17-year-old biology student at the University of Houston Downtown, said it happened after she finished her classes on Monday evening. She said she boarded the Red Line to meet her waiting mother.

Along the way, she said a strange man sat down across from her and began to stare.

“He's looking at me. I look over at him,” said Alexandria. “He looks down at himself and see that he's pulled out his penis. So I called mom.”

Alexandria said she yelled for help.

“She's screaming, saying ‘Mom, there's a man sitting across from me, he has his penis out and he's ejaculating,’” said Alexandria’s mother Thai Alexander.

Alexandria said no one on the train did anything.

“There's a guy to my left and women to my right, but no one comes to assist me,” she said.

With the train drawing closer to a stop, Alexandria's mother said she approached the conductor of a northbound train that was sitting at the station for help.

“She couldn't assist. She was in a rush, and I said ‘Please, can you call someone,” Alexander said. “[She] proceeded to drive away.”

When the train pulled into the station the man ran away, Alexandria’s mother said.

“I reach back thinking I could at least grab him. He runs past me through the grass and, I'm yelling for someone [to] help,” she said.

Help never came from other passengers or Metro, Alexander said.

A Metro spokeswoman said an investigation is now under way and, depending upon the findings, disciplinary actions could be taken against the conductor in question.

“If one of our drivers are alerted to a dangerous situation, they are to report it immediately. So, if that's what truly happenned -- the driver was alerted and ignored it -- they violated policy,” Metro Spokeswoman Margaret O'Brien-Molina said.

She said passengers need to know that if they call for help they'll get it.

Light rail cars do have surveillance cameras on board and Metro said it's trying to locate video of the alleged incident.

Last year, three cases of indecent exposure were reported to Metro and nine cases were reported the year before.
