Ferrari Mondial Roll Bar

Winter is still around and our customer is looking to have his car ready for the upcoming track events in the spring. Since this Ferrari is convertible he needed to add a roll bar to be compliant in the HPDE events he runs in. We designed this roll bar to mount to the car as simple as possible so the owner did not have to spend too much time taking it out or putting it in.

Below shows the roll bar mounted to the fire wall where a plate from the backside is mounted and left in for easy installs.

Main Hoop roll bar mounting brackets/plates.

Up close of the mounting point to the firewall. Here you can see the four allen bolts holding the plate on thats mounted on the backside.

This is the plate that is mounted on the backside of the firewall

This is a roll bar for him to enter to driving events here becuase most organizations will not allow a convertible in HPDE without a roll bar.

Straight from NASA Club Racing Rule book you need grade 5 or better. Which the car will never be a race car but the rule below is still a good basis to go off. Like stated above the customer needs this roll bar for running with certain organizations.

15.6.14.A Mounting Plates – Bolt-In Cage
The attaching points of a bolt-in cage to the body must use reinforcing plates to sandwich the body. At least three (3) bolts are required for each bolt-in plate and the plate must be at least 3/16 inch thick. All hardware must be SAE Grade 5 or better with 5/16” diameter minimum. All nuts must be held securely by a locking system such as safety wire, lock washer, Nylox, or jam-nuts.

Nice work on the bar.

I suppose being fast in the worst Ferrari must have it's merits, but you're still in a Mondial. Does the guy also have a 308 GT4?

Not exactly an over build. Grade 8.8 in metric is roughly equal to SAE Grade 5. Grade 10.9 would roughly equal a SAE Grade 8.

Very surprised the rules would spec a low grade fastener. I would not trust it myself.
