What do you do for a living?

Pretty simple question I think. Im in the Air Force, trying to decide what I want to do when I grow up.

I don't get it, you want to decide what to do when you grow up? You already said you are in the air force. Wtf how old are you?

I'm confused.

I guess you're not familiar with the Air Force? It's like a paid stay at Club Med.

haha, im 22. my enlistment is up at the end of the year. i use the term "when i grow up" loosely.

I thought joining the military would help me decide what i wanted to do... i guess it worked, i now know i DONT want to be a mechanic.

Yeah I used the same terminology even when I got out at 27 and was an E-6 in the Corps, and I just felt like I still needed to grow up. One thing the military does is make it so you don't have to manage your own life. Once I got out and had to make 100% of my own decisions, I felt much more grown up and like a real adult.

Sucks that your MOS (or whatever the Air Force calls it) isn't what you want to do. That sort of OJT is really good for when you get out into the real world if you decide to continue on the same path. Are you a vehicle mechanic or an aircraft mechanic?

Haha, exactly. I joined so I could be independant, not have to live under mommy's roof and follow mommy's rules. I guess i just didn't realize what the military was all about (even though mom did 22 years in the Corps).

How did you adjust to getting out? Im really nervous about it, and i think i might just join the army. The military spoiled me much worse than being an only child ever did. I get my base pay for spending money, OHA (BAH for overseas) pays for my rent and utilities, BAS, clothing allowance, free medical/dental, etc... and if i still need some pocket money, I just volunteer for a deployment.

I'm thinking about doing the civilian contractor gig for a year or three, I like being deployed, so I cant imagine how getting paid more and being a civilian could make it any worse.

I knew you were in the army, your location is the first clue.
