Homemade Cadbury Eggs

Currently making homemade cadbury eggs. The stuff is setting in the fridge so I have some downtime. Found instructions on Instructables
http://www.instructables.com/id/Home...ry-Creme-Eggs/

I will post pics when they are done but they should look something like this.

So after smoking up my kitchen while trying to melt chocolate the chocolate was too thick to coat the eggs correctly. Guess I need some vegetable shortening, whatever that is.

This is how they came out.

I will have to get that shortening and try again sometime.

Dude that doesn't look right. I made chocolate coated/dipped strawberries before and it turned out nice. Are you melting your chocolate in a bowl over steam? There shouldn't be any smoke at all. Chocolate will melt when warm, not even hot.

Microwave can still overheat/burn and starts to cool as soon as you take it out of the microwave. But it is an option.

Microwave, but I've set chocolate on fire doing that. You need a double boiler.

The microwave method seems to heat the chocolate too fast to the point where it is cooking it. Guess I will have to use the stove next time.

Yeah you have to get a double boiler for chocolate. If you don't want to invest in one of those as was mentioned you can use a metal (or glass) bowl over a pot of gently boiling water.

I love Cadbury Eggs... but litterally only during this time of year. I'll have 1-2 over the course of weeks that they're available and that's all I can stomach because they are rediculously sweet.

Props to you for trying to make candy.. that shit is hard.
