e36 M3

Anyone have an e36 M3? I'm thinking about buying a 96' but read that the steering feel is vague.

How does is compare to the e92/e90 steering feel?

10x better. The e36 M3 is the best car BMW has ever made. It is one of the best handling practical cars ever made. It's just underpowered compared to today's sports cars. If it had a 335i drivetrain I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm currently driving an e36 m3. My 335 comes in 2 weeks. I can't really compare the two since my 335 isn't here yet, but the steering in the m3 is definitely not vague.

It will probably be less vague than your 335i

how can you compare an e36 to a 335i. No power with sloppy steering response.

Vinobien has officially been shafted by the E9x

010101 please tell me how the E36 M3 is the best car BMW has ever made?

When in fact it has the chintziest materials and (subjectively) repulsive aging looks.

The E30 M3 is the icon car, made just so BMW could participate in racing events. A race car with license plates if you well.

Many can also agree the E30 has aged extremely well.

I suggest to the OP to look for a pristine E30 M3.

The only problem with the E30 M3 is the engine longevity. It needs to be rebuild every so often. You need to be able to do a lot work yourself or a very good friend that know how or a lot of money or a engine swap which sort of change the heart of the car.

I do agree with your comment to Vino. As for the e36....

"Chintzy" materials mean nothing to me. I have driven the e30, e36, e46, e90 and e92. To me the E36 was just the perfect blend of size, handling, practicality, and reliability(other than 3.2 liter vanos systems). I personally think the e36 is one of the best looking cars they ever made too. Obviously "the best car" is very subject and our opinions differ. If you want nice materials get a 7 series. Not a car I would ever want, but a nice interior none the less.

The steering is lighter - more assisted in the 335. The E36 steering is heavier but gets really nice at 40 +...The 335 is a little too sensitive at higher speeds - the E36 steering is more even from mid to high speeds. I would say neither are vague...but if you want to use that word the 335 is more vague especially with run flats. The e36 is a great car - it feels quite a bit lighter than the 335 and the performance is almost exact. The M does 0-60 in 5.3 - I haven't put the 335 through its paces yet - still breaking it in. The M3 is for sale...

The real difference is in ride quality. I had a 98 M3/4 and now have an E90 335i. I would have to say the steering feels tighter on the new car, but probably because it is new. My M3 had 90k when I sold it so it is impossible to say what I would think if they were both new.

The ride is much quieter and smooth in the E90. Really different power band, M3 was all about revs, 335 pulls from down low.

Both really good, but I do like my 335 better overall.

No doubt - they are different cars in many ways...the 335 is a much quiter comfortable car ...much more jekyll and hyde when you get on it...the M3 felt more like a racer even if you were just cruising...

Take a look at my sig

She's my beauty, my baby. And although the E90 is faster in a straightline, it can't take corners and feel the road the way my E36 does.

Estirol is an amazing color on an e36. Best of luck with the sale.

e36 m3 is the "worst" of all 3 series M3s... the e30 is an icon , and the e46 is also in a class of its own... the e36 m3 never impressed like the other two
