F1 Austin

Supposedly there's a big announcement this week coming out of F1 Austin. Any clue? I would love to hear they are taking Bahrain's slot for 2011 (but at the end of the year). No idea at what state of construction the track is in at this point and whether it could be ready. What else could it be?

I figured it would just be an announcement consisting of when the race will be next year? But your guess is as good as mine.

Problem with that is the schedule is announced annually, all at the same time. Way too premature to announce that. But you have to think it'll be either in June when F1 swings this way for the Canadian round, or either before or after Brazil in November. I'm hoping the news is they race in Austin this November! But ultimately I'd like to see the timing of the race in June during the North American swing through. Temperatures are quite hot then. I hope the asphalt is very grippy.

They could be announcing approximately when the race will take place (month or between which current rounds) and that tickets are going on sale already at a discounted price. I think the announcement is either Tuesday or Thursday. I'll have to re-watch today's race broadcast as I don't remember. I think they did state it would be 8 pm EST.

sort of Announcing the month or race venue order is not quite the same as the official calendar, which won't be out for quite awhile.

I'm just trying not to get my hopes up there will be a race there this year.

Austin F1 Circuit is in grading right now (elevation leveling) = no way it would be ready by November (unless Abu Dhabi money was doing it)

If I had to guess, I'd say it is probably announcing either a artist or 3D rendering of the finished facility, or it would be announcing major sponsors.

I swear though, if GM tries to get their grubby hands on F1 in the US I'm going to lose it.

Sad to hear but true. Heck, even June of next year is a stretch, according to many. And rumor is the project needs more funds, and whatever announcement they make is to generate investor interest. We'll see.

I hope it materializes in '12 to hear the V8s for the last time. No way I'd spend major money to basically hear motorcycles in 4 wheels race .

Since the management (read: Ecclestone) seems to only be concerned with the sound, you'll probably see tiny 4bangers with LARGE resonating exhausts. hah

Go to Montreal! Better city, entertaining track, beautiful women, great race-weekend atmosphere. What more could you ask for?

A race I can drive to in a day and spend the weekend. A new modern F1 facility. Austin is a really nice city, honestly a great place for a new F1 venue. Austin is easily accessible to a large portion of the US, good central location.

I disagree. While Austin may be in the center of the country, it's far from the majority of American F1 fans (East and West coasts). Also, it's nowhere near any of the major tourist locations in the U.S. Really wish they had gone with Monticello in NY or tried to get something together in Cali.
