Netflix rate hike
I've been a subscriber for almost 2 years now, and have definitely enjoyed the service but with the plan to almost double the rate for dvd's and streaming service I'm pretty sure that I will cancel my subscription.
Anyone else? Email from Netflix: Dear, We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both. Your current $9.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans: Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $7.99 a month Your price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs. These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011. You can easily change or cancel your unlimited streaming plan, unlimited DVD plan, or both, by going to the Plan Change page in Your Account. We realize you have many choices for home entertainment, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call us at 1-888-357-1516. –The Netflix Team

I just stream Netflix and rent Blu ray from Blockbuster. Blockbuster also includes games so that's a plus. Netflix just gave new life back to Blockbuster.

None of the above. I dropped my plan to 2 DVDs per month. We weren't watching more than that anyway and we have Amazon Prime, so we get some free streaming movies that way if we want them. We don't watch many of them either, though. My new plan for 2 DVDs per month is $4.99. Hell, that's a large coffee. I can swing that.

Amazon prime (use it anyway) + Hulu plus ($8 / month, with CURRENT episodes from CURRENT tv shows) = fuck netflix.
Netflix got me through college without cable or satellite, but this is bullshit. I'll probably do the instant-stream only option for a couple months, get bored, and cancel.. fucking pirates

Currently I'm going to stay with my plan as is (1 DVD unlimited + Bluray and streaming). I'll take a look at it closer to sept and decide what to do. I might just drop to 1 DVD unlimited. I don't mind waiting for a movie to come (plus a lot of the stuff in my queue isn't even offered streaming) and even though I like Bluray, I'm not sure I feel like paying their extra charge for it.

I almost never watch TV so I dropped FiOS and only use Netflix streaming on the PS3 (I don't bother using it on the 360 or Wii especially). If there's a TV show I really want to see, I'll find it online somewhere. I'm fine with $7.99/mo. |

Dropped like a hot rock. The streaming selection sucked, and you needed at least the 1 DVD planto get the latest releases. At $10 it was worth what I got. Not worth it after a 60% increase. Sure, it is only $6, but wouldn't we all complain if something went up 60% when it was already "priced right"?
That and I had to constantly reconnect my Samsung TV, and all either company did was blame the other. With xfinity and the premium movie channels, I can stream a ton of content on my iPads and computers, as well as watch on the TV. The kids can get new movies at Redbox. Done with Netflix.

The reason that Netflix pricing has gone up or there is a fluctuation is because the company has or is purchasing more rights to digital movie content from studios. Thus, adding more variety of movies and categories for subscribers. It costs a lot of money to get the rights to have popular movies. Studios and movie productions companies ( Universal studios, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, etc.) charge big bucks for rental and online movie companies the rights to have copies of their movies. Digital form is even more expensive since it's just a digital file and cheap to copy. Studios have to make up for that and charge a lot more. Therefore, Netflix has to charge more. I love Netflix and will continue to be a (Streaming Only) subscriber. BTW everyone should watch The Man from Nowhere!
