Hugo Boss Suits

I'm looking to buy a good suit and have my eyes set on the Hugo Boss Pasolini Movie Suit. Any comments on it? Any recommendations on other brands/suits that I should check out?

PS- I looked at Canali but they are out of the budget. Thinking about checking out Nordstrom Rack as Holm4n got one from there recently for about $500-600. My budget is about $600-700 (less is better).

Hugo Boss Pasolini

They might be a bit pricey to some people but check out the suits from J. Crew. If you need a go-to suit without having to worry about ruining it like you would for names like a Hugo Boss or Ermenegildo Zegna, I don't think you can go wrong with J. Crew.

What he said ^

If wore suits every day, I think I would go with those. For a suit that you wear only once in a while, I'd go with a Zegna (unless I was a baller to the extreme and my clients drove Veyrons - then I wear nothing but that). To me, Hugo Boss suits seem to be in that awkward in between category.

if it isn't for every day, go custom..
You can get them for around the same price as a Zegna and it will be 10000% better than an off the rack

depends on your body type...i think hugo boss is a slim fit...more of a european cut....Bachrach makes some decent mens suits...at a fair price....you can probably go to a local tailor and pick out custom fabric and have a suit custom made to your body instead of dropping 700 at hugo just to have it hemmed and altered?!

I have a few hugo boss blazers, and suits and find them great. I do take them to the tailor and get them fitted though which makes a huge difference. So perhaps buy the Hugo Boss suit, and spend just a little getting it tailored to your exact fit?

i am popular in OT ?...

tbh don't buy suits at the rack. they are really old, discontinued, and used stuff they couldn't sell before. also if you are a smaller size gl finding as all they have are like 44+ size suits. but the suits from the rack are like really old, some have holes, etc.

but i found out the suit price from the rack you add another $1-150 and you can go to the regular hugo store and buy a suit there. they always have suits on sale there and ever since i found this out ive just been going directly to the store.

everyone knows me by my first name there and i bought x3 suits, x2 sport coats, and x3 pants from there as well. for shirts i like bb non iron shirts.

i love the fit and style of the brand and became the biggest hugo fan boy and now if i ever need clothes i go to the store and get me whatever there from t shirts to jeans .

PS: although alterations are free at hugo, do you guys tip your tailor? having done so many of my clothes and sometimes redoing them, i gave him a total so far $40 between everything i bought from there.

I owned a hugo boss suit and I didn't like the cut with it's square shoulders. I have broad shoulders so it looked a little funny on me. I prefer more of the american style suits with rounded shoulders. Maybe hugo boss makes different cuts but the one I got from the hugo boss store had a square shoulder

I get compliments on my Theory suits quite often and I buy them at outlets. All of my shirts are custom made because I have a wider neck and was sick of the assumption that a 17" neck means you're 400lbs. My chick works in the industry and tells me when they are going to have sales and I clean up at the outlets. I will agree 100% that you will not find a better suit than something that is made for you but you would be hard pressed given your price range.

You can get a nice Brooks Brothers outlet suit for below your price range, or watch for their regular store suits to go on sale. They do alterations for free.

For Christ's sake, don't buy OFF THE RACK!! You can have a custom suit made within your budget that will actually fit you. Stop worrying about the brand. You can buy RL Purples all day long for $5k+ and if they fit you like shit, guess what - you still look like shit.

You should be able to get a suit and 3 custom made shirts (READ: made to measure), within your budget....

I imagine this varies HEAVILY by region. In the NYC metro area you would be hard pressed to find anyone to make you a custom suit in a presentable material for $700. Unless he has some weird shape, he is going to get a better value buying a suit off the rack and having it tailored to fit nicely.

Sure it does, but he's in SF Bay. It's going to be easy to put something nice within his budget. NYC shouldn't be too much more given the number of bespoke haberdashers resident in the city..
