A "track toy" is a car that will be used almost exclusively used for the track, so it will be in addition to the cars someone already has for daily use. I doubt a "workin' man" has the disposable income to buy something like a Lotus for this purpose.

Its mostly miatas and s2000's if you're actually serious about track time or autocross. You can add Mini into that category (especially once they age a bit more).
Side note: The miata guys dont mess around... they're pretty hardcore when it comes to driving skills. |
