CD, savings, money markets, munis?!

read the pay check to pay check thread....

assuming some people who are not living pay check to pay check have have some liquid cash in savings, how do you structure your savings? what type of accounts? i have some savings and wells fargo offers dick squat for interest as do other banks....i mean a freggin 11 month CD will only offer like .15% !

i heard munis is a decent way to park some cash!? i mean states are strapped for money i would think they would encourage any investment??! is my thought process off?

Anything I want to be able to get no matter what I put in no penalty CDs...better than nothing, better than a regular savings. I have a regular savings for money I access a few times a month, and obviously checking for day to day shit.

LOL I compare the basic savings, money markets and CDs to my mattress. I can probably find the same amount of interest under that sucker. I just use it as a place to store my money since I'm too scared to play the stock market on my own. My main investments are through work... 401k and ESPP.

You know it being "through work" has no magic insulation against market risks, right? Your 401k is on your own too, but usually the company gives you some shitty funds to choose blindly from that suck more than others you could buy on your own.

Capital One pays me 1.20% on my savings plus a quarterly bonus. Not bad for 100% flexibility and better or as good as the best short term CDs.

Invest in real estate, buy a condo on pre sale most of the time it takes about 10-15% down at signing of offer, wait 1-2 years till it's built then you sell or rent and you can make more than any bank can offer you after it's all said and done. That being said with a potentially higher return there is higher risk, in the end it takes money to make money

for liquid cash there are some savings account that are around 1-1.5%

ally
capital one

other then that not much else. Or if you plan to lease a car soon the multiple security deposits have great interest.
