Computer problem, baffled...

So, all of a sudden my desktop DVD burner doesn't work. Here's the specifics, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

1. Bios sees drive
2. Swapped drive with a spare, no go
3. Drive gets power fine
4. Explorer doesn't see drive
5. Tried new SATA cable, no go
6. Tried new SATA mobo port, no go
7. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling drive, no go
8. Tried to boot from drive as primary to boot windows disk, in a effort to repair windows (if that was the problem), no go
9. D/L'd new driver for drive, no go

Everything was working fine up until last night. Tried installing new anti-virus program from disk, let it run, came back this morning and had an error message "drive disconnected, try again."

Everything else on the computer works fine.

I hate this shit

Since the BIOS sees it, it has to be the driver. Does it at least READ stuff?

Everything's pretty much default bios except boot priority, strange that bios sees the drive but won't read it.

hook up to another computer if possible? I believe I've had this problem with a regular cdrom years again, and the thing just ended up being kaput. I tried everything under the sun, and nothing would recognize it.

Try uninstalling the AV and going through the process again.

Do other sata devices work?

Does windows see the drive at all such as device manager?

A new DVD Burner shouldn't be expensive at all.

I had this issue with my gaming rig and in the end the unit was junked.

Order a new one from Newegg

All other SATA ports work (2 drives).

Oddly enough, after I re-installed my antivirus program via the internet and upgraded using the product key, my computer sees the drive again. I'm thinking I may have had a virus, so I just clean installed windows again.
