2012 Shelby 1000 has 950 HP

http://jalopnik.com/5896769/the-2012...epower-monster

The 2012 Shelby 1000 Is A 950-Horsepower Monster
This is the most powerful factory-built Shelby Mustang ever; a full serving of 950-horsepower V8 (1,100 on race fuel) with a bit of Mustang on the side. If you've got $149,995 burning a hole in your pocket it'll burn a hole in the universe for you.
The new Shelby 1000 will debut next week at the New York Auto Show according to MustangsDaily.

That aforementioned 950-horsepower figure is when you run the 5.4-liter V8 on pump gas. If you check the box for the "off-road" S/C track version, the engine starts putting out 1,100 horsepower on race fuel. Shelby American rebuilds the engine down to the block; everything else in the drivetrain is new. They also upgrade the wheels, tires, bodykit, suspension and rear end to go along with the new-found 300-450 horsepower.

If you feel like putting down $149,995 on top of the price of a donor GT500 for this future Barrett-Jackson car, you can place your order after its public unveiling.

For some strange reason, a Mustang model's appeal actually starts going down once it crests past a certain power output. I'd rather have a 650hp GT500 than this thing.

Where with all that power? I'm fine with a 200 PS BRZ. But I assume most like +600 PS powerful cars.

Yes, I'd rather have a Boss 302 which is true track car as opposed to both.

Look at the rear tire width, that right there should tell you lots about the idea behind this car. Not to mention its ugly.

major fail with the press photos. besides that, I'd never spend that kind of money on a mustang. People must be out of their mind if they do that.

I'm a fan of the Mustangs but for $150k I would rather have a Boss, 2013 GT500, and $50k in the bank. I won't live long enough to see any collector value out of anything current with the Shelby name attached. In the 60's-70's the Shelby name carried clout. They raced and won with their cars. Today it's just a sticker on a modified car.

This. If you're tracking, just get the Boss.

Yeah I'm fine with half of 1kHP. Even 650 seems a bit wild IMO.

Yeah what a douche. Did they end up firing that guy? They should.

And yeah, today the Shelby name is nothing more than marketing on the GT500s. They should just be called Cobras. Again, IMHO.

I agree in part, but the last car to wear the Shelby name when the old man kicks off (could very well be this car) will have strong collector value. It will be the last car that "he had his hands on"

Wouldn't the GT350 actually be the last car he had his hands on?

Ford needs to put that engine in a proper car, like a new GT40. Now that's a sexy car.

Exactly.

Shelby signed off on that abortion of a mustang that West Coast Customs (hacks) built. Anything for $ these days.

although I agree his signature is being thrown around too much but that yellow wide body mustang from west coast customs looked really nice imo. I would have done different wheels but everything else was sweet

The fastback body on top the new 5.0 chassis they did on the last show was sick.
