Meowing cat

What can I do to get my cat to stop meowing after I leave my apartment. My neighbor just told me after I leave in the mornings he can hear her meowing non-stop. What should I do.

If your cat can knock over your TV, then that's either one huge strong cat or one light TV.

New suggestions:
1) Get a big cat tree climbing structure
2) Get a window perch, so kitty can look out on the world
3) Catnip scented toys. A stoned kitty is a happy kitty.

How old is the cat?

You need to get things that will keep it occupied. Cats like to get high up, so if you can get a multi-level cat tower that is up against a window that will keep it occupied for hours. I built one myself (see below) and hung a few toy balls that have bells in them from it and my two cats spend all day playing on it.

Also, get some interactive toys for it to play with like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...43712&lmdn=Cat

nice DIY cat tree. my cat has one three levels, one with a little nook type thing and the top level she can climb thru its right by window. but i guess she gets bored of it. ill probably try buying one of those toys for her and see if it helps. btw shes almost 4 months old.

Just saw you said that you already have a tower and she's clingy. Not really sure what to do with that. When we got our 1 cat the kitten to keep him company they became glued together and focus most of their attention on each other instead of me and my GF.

I think a lot of it has to do with her age. When our kitten was that age she wanted to play all the time too. That's where the older cat came in because it gave her someone/something to do while we were gone. She'll eventually grow out of it as she gets older, but right now the key is figuring out what will occupy her time while you are away from home.

yeah i got her because i felt bad for my dog being alone all day. but i suppose as she gets older shell start to be like normal cats and mind her own buisness. (as she lays in my arms while i try to type)

I suggest you go to the forum linked below. They have a lot of knowledgeable members who should be able to assist. They should be able to answer just about any question on cats.

Post the question in the Behavior section.

How about one of those dog collars that shock when you bark? Would be super funny to see.

"Meow"...ZAP! And suddenly the cat is on top of the fridge trembling.

Of course, I don't really like cats, and don't for a minute suspect that they have the mental capacity to learn the pattern between an action they make and the consequence (pain)...unlike dogs.

Cats actually have extremely good memory.

Quote:
Once attained, even if by accident or trial and error, most knowledge is retained for life, thanks to the cat's excellent memory. Even hunting techniques buried under years of neglect in the well-fed house cat's brain will be recalled with ease should the feline, for some reason, ever have to fend for itself.

Easily frightened, a cat will retain very strong memories of any incident that it considers threatening. All it takes is one face-to-face encounter with a growling dog to convince a feline that the entire canine species is best avoided forever. However, positive experiences are just as easily stored and recalled, particularly if they have to do with food or play.

As any cat owner knows, domestic felines respond well to familiar sounds, such as can openers, the rattling of their dry-food bags or the crinkly noise of a favorite toy. Many of them also have an uncanny ability to know the hour of their regular breakfast time, waking up their owner if he or she tries to sleep in.

Pretty much any animal may be trained using classical conditioning. Cats are extremely responsive to it and are also effectively trained using operant conditioning which is ineffective on some animals.

OP: you have to occupy the cat. I build mine pillow forts sometimes and he disappears for hours, they really like small spaces where they can hide and look out at the world simultaneously. Try leaving a dresser drawer open enough for your cat to crawl into and get out of.
