I need to buy a PC

Computer people:

I'm a Mac dude, already have a MBP but don't know much about the PC world, but can assume most things are the same.

I need a PC that's going to excel in all areas for music production.

From your experience, what is the best PC I can get for under $600?

What should I be looking for? i3, i5, i7, duo core, quad core, hard drive space, etc...

Why would you use a PC for Music Production?
Live, Reason, Logic Pro and Pro Tools all work on Macs. What else would you need?

Plus any recent (2-3 year old) Mac would do the job better than a $600 PC.

Get another Mac for DJ'ing the local bars, the hipsters won't take you serious without a glowing apple.

I know sounds silly right? Trust me, I know Mac is the go to for music related anything. I'm doing a project with a music program called FL studio and it ONLY runs on PC. Yea I can get bootcamp and run windows on my Mac but it's not as stable.

There is rumor that the latest FL studio will run on Mac, but I never use beta stuff anyways.

Don't buy a new computer just to use FL studio. Not worth it.

Just use one of Live, Reason, Logic Pro and Pro Tools.

Why would you do anything with Fruit Loops? That thing is a piece...

But Bootcamp is pretty stable with Win 7. It blows with XP and if you have to use Firewire stuff.

I haven't used Live, but already have the rest you mentioned. FL Studio has the most stupid easy workflow I've used and the Plugins and VST's exclusive to FL are perfect for what I need to do.

longest going "thing to say" about FL studio for years. FL has had a stigma that it's child's play, but some of the top music producers in the world (Afrojack, Hitboy, Deadmau5, David Guetta, WillIam, Boi1da, 9th wonder, Just blaze, the list goes on...) have made Grammy multi platinum selling records with FL studio.

Thanks for the tip on Win 7 vs XP though

not sure what that is, but it still sounds like a bootcamp or parallel program to "inceptualize" my Mac.

The best processor you can find on an ASUS, i3-i5 most likely, at your budget. RAM can be added, the rest isn't needed, unless you want to raise your budget.

Parallels or VMware Fusion (not free) or even Oracle VirtualBox (free) will allow you to run a Windows 7 virtual image on your Mac. Even with the virtualization software and Windows you would spend less than purchasing a new machine.

You can build your own pc instead of buying it. Buying a $600 pc will have crap specs when compared to a $600 built one. It's not hard at all and saves a ton of money.
You won't really get much great out of $600 when buying from dell or hp or anything else

It seems that most people with built pc's are hardcore gamers. But if you're saying it will be cheaper than what's out there, I'm all ears.

How do I go about having it built? Is it like dell's website having it built or some type of computer speciality store?

$600 budget will not get you much further if you custom build. The i5 is $250 by itself.
