Lexus LFA "Special Edition"

Lexus LFA production run of 500 units is almost sold out, but there is always room for special editions. Lexus is very likely going to introduce a new special edition of their LFA supercar that is currently being tested at the Nürburgring.

At first the prototype looks similar to the Nürburgring Edition with its big rear wing, but at closer inspection you will notice a carbon fibre bonnet with new air intake, carbon fibre roof, side skirts, new lip spoiler an a new never before seen bright colour. There is also a new rear diffusor.

The Nürburgring Edition package had an engine output increased by 10bhp to 562bhp and faster shifts in the six-speed sequential transmission. We wouldn’t be surprised if this new model has over 600bhp!

We don’t know what Lexus will call this special edition LFA, but we expect to see it at a major car show end of this year or in early 2013.

I've always loved the look and style of the LFA ... and this car is amazing! I don't know if I would say that I like it better than the normal LFA though (which is rare and 'special' enough), it's just different.

Color scheme is cool too.

Thanks for sharing!

There is a whole lot of body work on that car. Not sure yet if thats a good thing or not. Maybe if it was in a different color, I think that's throwing me off a bit.

Fantastic. I bought a normal LFA '10 in GT5 the other day.

STOCK, only mod: soft sporttyres it's just as fast on the TG track as a STOCK 458 (on soft sporttyres offcourse) , give or take one or two tenths of a second.

IRL I think it would be the same?

Cheers

Could be more powerful too, according to this. Those exhausts remind me of the Scuderia

A gain of 50HP would require more than a simple ECU tweak. I wonder what they're doing with it.

I don't see a 458 that can run a 7:14 on the Nurburgring. The fastest 458 runs 7:32. That is a 18 second difference on the ring..

I've owned and driven a lot of good cars and I must say the LFA is one of the most refined cars I have seen or driven. Yes, the car isnt as fast (in a straight line) as some other cars but for me it wasn't that important. The detail and quality of the car is superb. Even the screws have the name "Lexus" on them.

From the door handle to the seatbelts, sitting on one gives you a sense on how special the car is. And AFAIK the LFA has no parts taken from any other Lexus or car model.

I have some Italian cars on my garage but none of them IMO is better in terms of overall drivability, quality and refinement of the LFA. I used to feel that the LFA was really overrated but once I experienced my friend's LFA first hand I changed my opinion. Given a decade, I really think the LFA would be a keeper.

After blue LFA NE AD-A now green Lexus LFA NE AD-B

Quote:
…it’s time for the absolutely last resort in news-gathering: Pick up the phone, call Toyota. When I call them, they have never heard of the baby blue LFA. I send them a few links, now they have.

They promise to ask around, and an hour later, Toyota spokesman Joichi Tachikawa says that “this test was part of the many research activities” Lexus conducts, never mind the fact that the LFA production is going into its home stretch and won’t extend beyond 2012, there still remains work to be done.
Quote:
“These LFA units spotted at Nürburgring are one-off vehicles developed by the TMC technical division, and are currently being tested for technical purposes only,” Etienne Plas, senior manager of product communications for Lexus Europe, told me via email, “We have no plans to produce and sell any new special edition of the LFA.”
What research on a car that is sold out and that porduction won't extend beyond 2012 ? LFA II ? LF-LC ? New engines ?

The LFA's lap time is 7:38. That's 6 second slower than the 458's. The 7:14 was set by the LFA Nurburgring Edition.

So was the first time of the 458 Italia, 7:38 min. Only then it did 7:32 min. First time it was with PS2 tires and then with PSS. The LFA's tires are worse, and even the semi-slick tire of the LFA NE are not the best. But the tire choice has to do with Lexus contract to uses Bridgestone tires.
