BMW 135i vs E46 models

Do you think one resembles the other one ? I can see a few similarities, like the front grill

http://edbmw.com/blog/2007/07/09/bmw...46-bmw-models/

edit: added the 335i as well

wow, very nice find~

Now that you put each model side by side the 1 series does have many striking similarities to the E46, I guess the e46 fans will love this even more.

umm... aren't the kidney grills one of the trademark bmw design cues? It's wouldn't really look like a bmw without those. Hey look it also has lights too.

Yeah, it was on Irv's blog. I'm going to edit my first post to show the 335i as well.

Yes, the 2 cars look alike. Fortunately they dont share the same chassis, the 1 series was designed from scratch. the e46 chassis was a rattlebox anyway.

I'm not sure what you're implying, but the front grill on some BMWs look different from other models, so what I was referring to, it was mostly the shape and design, which on the 1-series looks similar to the E46 one.

swoosh

i actuallu think from the pictures you posted the 1er grill looks more like the e92 then the e46, as they both have a rounded top, but the e46 facelift you posted has a flat top on the grill... otherwise, yeh they are similar, because they are both from a similar age

Now that the new 3 series resembles a large RV.. size wise anyway.. I would say the 1 series is the new 3 and the new 3 is just another over sized boat to go with the 5, 6, 7 x3 and x5.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 1 series is based on the e46 platform/chassis.

I'm not sure what to believe anymore, some people say E46 other say that it's a new chassis.

latest i've read is in this thread.... guys are saying it was developed from scratch. C&D originally printed that it shared the e46 chassis but apparently that was a mistake on C&D

Understandable why people would think the 1-series is based off the E46 chassis since it was introduced right smack in the middle of the E46 life cycle back in 2003. However, it is incorrect. The 1-series has its own unique chassis separate from the E46.
