Mercedes to retire its Maybach line permanently

Although the announcement was made some time ago, with the launch of its 2013 price list, Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz has officially stopped making its super-luxurious Maybach collection. Slow moving vehicles

Buying a Maybach will cost anywhere between $376,000 and $1,380,000. In 2004, the business sold 244 sedans, but final year it only sold 99 in the States. There was even a $100,000 rebate last year that did not help them sell faster. The peak of sales was in 2004, and it has only gone down since then. Even though there are a ton of reasons why Daimler AG would let the line go, the biggest probably has to do with sales.

Purchase a 2012

The line will end after the 2012 models are sold off. Maybach will be selling them all right now at big discounts.

Massive luxury lines starting in 1990s

In the 1990s, all three major German automakers decided to create super-luxury lines, using respected names from the past. Volkswagen revived the Bentley, BMW acquired Rolls-Royce, and Mercedes took on the even more-distant Maybach line. However, the limo-like super-luxury sedans never took off for any car maker in a way that was hoped for.

All about Maybach

All three models of the Maybach line are going: The Maybach Type 57, the Maybach Type 62 and the impossibly cushy Maybach Landulet. The 57 and the 62 both pack a 5.5 liter V12 motor that gives 543 horsepower. The Landulet has a 6.0 liter V12 that creates 620 horsepower.

The return of the Pullman

But Daimler still is extending luxury buyers the courtesy of new cars for the segment, which, conveniently, will even compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. To that end, it is adding a top-of-the-line model to its S series. According to AOL Autos, that will be the 600S Pullman, reviving another model moniker from the past. Rumor has it that it will come with options for any type of motor, included a four cylinder diesel version.

The Mercedes-Benz 600, launched in 1963, was a line of luxury automobiles. A long wheel-base version of that model was known as the Pullman.
