Wink HD-DVD will win the format war!

...because I just ordered a PS3 and some blu-ray titles. As I mentioned in a different thread, I bought betamax, Sega Dreamcast, iMac G5 (iSight) and the E90 330i all of which were quickly discontinued shortly after I bought them...

First two titles I bought are 300 and Planet Earth. I can't believe V for Vendetta is HD-DVD only at the moment....

You do realize....

Blu-Ray is Sony Proprietary technology.

HD-DVD is a licensed format.

Therefore, just like the mini-disc, and countless other Sony Proprietary tech's.... Blu-Ray will tank, since 90% +/- of distributors will not be able to produce Blu-Ray.

why not get the oppo dv-981hd upconverting dvd player instead and wait out the format war. its a little over $200 and has great 1080p upconversion of dvd's.

Me too. Held out on the 360 until March of this year... Just before the update.

Hey - you're talking to the guy that bought betamax... I forgot about minidisc - I had that too.

Well I was going to get a PS3 for GT5 anyway - just a matter of time. I'll keep the Blu Ray format purchases to a minimum until there's a clear winner - and at least I can rent them from Blockbuster in the meantime, which I can't do with HD-DVD. I don't buy all that many DVDs anyway. It's just that 300 is such a visually excellent movie that is seemed a shame to not buy it in HD.

in your op you make it sound like you bought the ps3 just for the movies but if you're a gamer why not have the ps3. i'm not knocking the ps3 and i actually think that blu ray is going to win the war but that oppo player is great.

what the hell? Blu-Ray is not Proprietary. Anyone can use it. Many companies other than Sony use Blu-Ray, like Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Phillips, Sharp and computer manufacuters like Dell, Apple..though the later has yet to include BD drives.

Open your Eyes! Also almost all movie studios support Blu-Ray except Universal.

I have foumd that whatever format shows up in movie rental stores is the format that wins the war, and only Blue-ray is at Blockbuster.

I don't understand how the TC's first post relates to HD-DVDs winning the war against Blu-Rays. Nonetheless, I hate Sony (but love their TVs) and hope that the Blu-Ray format flops...
...Sony is evil...

Take a look at this link for what it's worth. As I said above - I am the kiss of death for any format - I got my player on Friday (a PS3) and studios are already dropping the format. Looks like blu-ray is on its way to becoming the new betamax...

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...-the-curb.html

I'm just glad I went the PS3 route instead of getting a dedicated box.

I think Blu-Ray is overrated. The player alone costs a fortune while the dvds are incredibly expensive. Seriously though can you really tell the difference between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray??
