yeah, super dumb.
MS Engineer 1: "I've got an idea! Why don't we make an operating system that devours all your system ram, so you've got none left for those pesky operations like processing and multitasking?" MS Engineer 2: "Wow, Bill! You're on to something!" Me : (Repeated strikes to the face of both engineers with a meat tenderizer) |

Vista is fvcking terrible. I hate it. I have it on my new home computer. That computer would run sooooooo nice with XP..
XP is so much cleaner, intuitive, and all you need. Vista is counter-intuitive, and a pita.

I've been using Vista for a couple of months now and have no problems. I also custom built my computer. The safety features that make you go through "40 screens" to get something done is a safety feature that protects the end user from doing something harmful to their computer without really knowing. This is something that happens quite a bit, especially with OSes like 2000 or XP, that let users pretty much do anything they want.
Although it takes a little longer to get things done, I appreciate the foresight to protect most consumers. I haven't had any problems changing the color settings either. Dig deep enough, and the administrator programs built into Vista are actually a really nice addition. |

U gotta wipe out Vista first, then reformat it with XP. the old pop in CD and reformat don't work, have to wipe out HD first. are u able to change the color settings on ur comp? like the contrast, gamma correct and such?

Sometimes the newer computers only have drivers available in vista though, so you're pretty much stuck with vista..

I have been using Vista for a few months... I dont have any problems. You just have to have a few gigs of ram, and a decent processor.. I think once you use it for a while, you get used to it and it becomes totally usable. As far a the 40 screens you have to accept to get anything done... I totally agree, it sucks, you can however, disable those and it wont ask again. All I have to say is, you better get used to it, all the new comps are going to start coming with Vista only hardware. I have tried to roll back some laptops at my work to XP, only to find out that there are NO drivers available for XP, only Vista.

I just bought a new VAIO laptop and had to pay more to get one in stock that still had XP Pro on it than the same machine with Vista on it. I was happy to do so and the XP Pro works just fine thank you...

the only problem i have with vista is the 3d rendering memory ussage, which there is currently a hotfix for
besides that you guys need to realize that the memory usage you see is not actuall memory usage, it is pre allocation of the memory so its available for any application that needs it right away also you need vists 64 bit to recognize more than 3gb of ram, you can use 64 bit xp, but it has 9850214375098423 more problems then vista |
