Moments you've almost died
I know this seems random, but after seeing a bad car accident this morning, it reminded me how quick we can be taken away.
Here's the numerous moments I've "escaped death" 1. 6 years old at Raging Waters (water park) I could not swim yet, but was riding in the wave machine which you ride in these tubes in a large pool of waving water. This fat girl bumps me out of my tube due to a collision and I go under water in the deep end. All I remember was that aqua sound and a bunch of feet then I blacked out and ended up standing on the shallow end with nobody around me. Pretty sure that was my guardian angel. 2. 7 years old. Choked on a huge jaw breaker candy and it was so stuck in my throat that I couldnt even cry and then I Hulk sneezed out of nowhere and the jaw breaker literally flew across the room. 3. Riding my little scooter across a residential street and a car came speeding towards me and slammed on the brakes skidding and stops witin inches from me. 4.Was about 12 years old and went on a ski trip with the fam. Me and my older brother were on a slope and I somehow got way off course, it got very foggy and I didnt know where I was so I decided to stop and when the fog clears, there was a huge cliff I could have flew off. 5. About 16 years old, I was hanging with the wrong people at the wrong time and at a party and some gang bangers came shooting and I could hear bullets whizzing by my head. That was by far the scariest moment of all. What about you guys? |

I was 17 in HS, my gf at the time 16. Rainy night in the middle of mountain roads, I was showing off in my 190E w/ no power anything going like 80 in 35. Road turned left, right side being a cliff. I braked, but no ABS. skidded the whole way, and banged into the guardrail at the edge of the cliff. my dumb-as-a-brick gf thought it was fun. we still went to the movies right after. it was Fast & Furious.
Yo, but no joke though, when I was sliding, I envisioned pictures of my entire life flash right across my eyes in slow motion, just like in the movies... |

In my early 20s, I was run off a 5 lane road by a careless driver and hit a tree head on in my CRX @ ~45mph. The tree didn't budge. Force of the impact bent the front bumper cover at a perfect 90 angle and cracked the dash cleanly in half. I woke up in the turn lane, facing the opposite direction. Walked away with nary a scratch.

My Mom told me when I was 4 yrs old I was being a brat and throwing a temper tantrum in the grocery store and ran outside across the road into the parking lot right in front of an SUV that nearly ran me over. How the SUV didnt hit me my Mom has no clue, I would have been crushed being only 4yrs old.
In 2003 I lost all my short term memory as I hit my head so hard on the ground from a fall off my horse. All I remember is riding my horse then waking up in the emergency with my head split open. No memory of the accident whatsoever. I was found face down unresponsive in the pasture when my horse showed up at the barn with her bridle on but no rider on her. In 2001 I was jumping on horseback and fell at a jump as the horse stumbled and I lost my balance. I fell underneath the horse and was crushed. Fractured my spine from C2 all the way down to T5. Couldnt not walk for weeks. Wasnt able attend school for a month. Was on bed rest. Was told by Dr's I wouldnt be able to ride again because of the spinal injury I had. These pictures are from yesterday. |

Driving to work in my Dakar E36 M3 Evo. Dont know what happened but the backend stepped out and I hit a tree at around 40mph on my drivers door. The car then caught fire.
The tree hit where the drivers door meets the front arch, if it hit a few feet back it would of hit me and I would of surely been dead. Could of been knocked un-conscious and burned alive. I walked away with a few cuts and bruises. |

The only other time I went off a 2 lane hwy in my buddies POS trailblazer because he was effing with his new subwoofer not paying attention and drove onto the shoulder, over corrected and put us into the trees at 65MPH. We didn't hit a single tree larger than 2-3inches in diameter but we couldn't open either of the doors because we were wedged between 2 trees that were at least 20inches in width. The car was 100ft into the woods. LUCK! I was 24. I've had a few pretty hairy situations at the beach before after wiping on my surfboard over the years as well. None that I remember more than being slammed into coral or sand and not knowing which way to go up for air, barely getting a breath and then getting nailed with the next wave. |

Some interesting stories for sure.
The time that I almost thought I would die is when I was swimming in the ocean with a couple friends and heard the lifeguards calling everyone in because of a rip tide. I tried swimming to the shore but I realized that I was getting dragged further out. So my "discovery channel know how" lol kicked in and I started swimming parallel to the shore trying to catch the waves in. A lifeguard showed up with a jet ski and obviously my friends hopped on real quick and there was no space for me After the severe disappointment and fatigue a wave came crashing down on my head and sent me spinning underwater. I barely got up for a gasp of air and another one came crashing down. At this point I am so exhausted I am about to pass out from the lack of air. I somehow manage to get to the shore where I totally collapsed gasping for air. I seriously thought I was dying at this point. |

Two of them that stand out both involve the same ATC (3 wheeler). I was somewhere between 7 and 8 for both of them.
1. I rolled the 3 wheeler at low speed in front of my grandmas cabin. The only person that was around was my sister who is 7 years older. I was wearing a sweat suit, which is significant because I was pinned under the thing and it was leaking gas on me. My sister was able to roll it off of me, but I remember sanding in the show and my skin burning from the gasoline. 2. The second incident with the same 3 wheeler was at an off-road park with my brother. He is 11 years older then me, and the two of us went for the day, I remember that the three wheeler had a brand new gas tank on it for this trip. It had rained a lot prior to our trip. I was following him up a hill that was next to a big river (that was not usually big) it had to be 3 feet deep and it was flowing pretty fast (probably the speed of a jog). Half way up the hill I hit a rock that knocked my front wheel straight down a ledge into the river, I was not strong enough to hold the steering straight. I went into the water, I seem to remember floating upright very briefly. The three wheeler rolled over and I was stuck under it. Fortunately I was able to just keep my head above water. I think I, still under the ATC, got stuck on something and my brother and a guy on a dirt bike were able to get it off of me. I don't remember much after that, I fell asleep in the cab of the truck with the heater on. I also remember that I put a dent in the brand new gas tank. |

When I was coming back from college after spring semester one year I slide off the outside apex of a turn, over a stone wall and hit a tree at 60mph. The road was salty and sandy since it was spring and thats what was put down for the ice and snow that had just melted.
The stone wall under the truck prevented it from folding up the way it was designed and instead the engine went straight back. If I had been wearing my seatbelt, the steering wheel would have crushed me. It was off so I was able to move out of the wave. I saw blood everywhere each time I regained conciousness... jaws of life, the whole 9... I still wear my seatbelt though. There were other times like when I attempted to backflip my dirtbike and it landed on me or the time a car hit the back of my street luge or the time I fell off the cliff on Bryce Canyon. I was shot with a Mossberg once loaded with a 12g beanbag round....that's it for me though for near death experiences |

I'm insulin dependent.
One day pops found me in his room (I have no reason to be there) and I was sweating and incoherent. I passed out on his bed and he called 911. He tried to do CPR on me on the bed After 2 glucagon injections by the paramedics they were finally able to read my blood sugar at 28 mg/dl. Another day the future ex wife came back to our apartment, calling me. No answer. No response from the cat either. He eventually meowed to her from the top of the stairs and she found me passed out in the spare bedroom. Paramedics only had to give me oral glucose gel, but I woke up in the ambulance. "Do you know where you are?" "Looks like an ambulance and I taste orange in my mouth, so my blood sugar must be low" "OK, you're coming around, but we're still taking you all the way to the hospital for observation" |
