Roomate joyriding new m3 when I was gone
One of my roommate apparently stole my keys and put 200 miles on my new m3 while I was traveling abroad - odo was less than 200 miles before I left. Roommate no. 2 told me about this today.
Sounds like the car is fine but I'm pretty sure he drove like a maniac and probably put regular gas. What would you guys do if this happened to you? |

Ask roommate #1 what happened before accusing. Take it from there based on their reaction and response

First, take your hand and ball it up into a fist. Then ram your fist against your face. NEVER leave you car keys out while you're out of town! Roommates or not!!
Second, it depends if he's on the lease or not. I personally would flip the fuck out on said roommate if that were true. If for nothing else because those are MY first miles to put on the car!! Not anyone else's! With the black box technology in these new cars BMW NA can probably tell if you followed the break in procedure and deny you warranty work because of it. Maybe.... That last part could be urban legend... Seriously though, i would wig out on that dude. Lessons would be learned. It's different now, but those first few hundred miles are like the first dates and shit!! NOT cool.

Umm, why would you leave your keys behind? Sort of asking for it really.
Doesn't make it right, I'd be pissed, but honestly, not sure what I'd do. How good a friend is this roommate? If a good friend, I'd let it go. If just a roommate, man I don't know. Maybe tell him the service is due and since he put all the miles on it, he has to pay for the service. A nice $200- $300 bill will make him think twice next time. But definitely ask him what happened, don't accuse him right off the bat. Ask him why he thought that was appropriate and how he plans to compensate you for the use of your car / all those extra miles? Ask him, don't demand. He'll probably think your a prick because you aren't inclined to just let him do whatever he wants with YOUR stuff, but you know, next time he won't use your stuff. Or even better, maybe he won't want to associate with you because you aren't tolerant of letting him have a free ride in life and he'll move out. Good luck and let us know! |

BJ/ Sex first, ask later
Actually I would ask first, as it could be #2 trying to set up #1. Either way, grounds for eviction.... never leave your key in sight! I wouldn't want anyone touching my possessions w/o ever asking first.

also calculate average per mile rates and deduct that from your share of the bills....
you should be pretty uptight with your hard earned goods!

Maybe he needed to get to the hospital because his daughter was suddenly in labor with Kim kardashian's baby but then realized it was a ploy to get him driving. She hired a hit man who put a bomb in the car and he couldnt go below 55mph without blowing up. After 45 miles harry potter flew up on a magical unicorn and disarmed the bomb with a spell.

I'd confirm that it was in fact roommate #1 and then go ape shit on him. He needs to understand that it is not okay to borrow things without asking, especially a $50k car performance vehicle. I'd also say that your reaction should not be tempered by trying to keep a good friend - good friends don't steal your car.
