Pardon us for being a bit late with this story, but it?s simply too wild to skip altogether. On September 16th, a 250 pound bear was rescued from the Rainbow Bridge, near Donner Pass in California.

The bear was pinched between cars headed east and west on the bridge and jumped. Somehow the bear caught itself before plummeting 80 feet to the valley below. It ended up spending a night perched precariously on the concrete ledge.

Apparently the bear tried to climb down from this strange resting place, but it quickly decided that wouldn?t work. Volunteer rescue workers procured a large net and lots of rope to lower the bear down to the ground below the bridge. Of course the bear had to be sedated first, and then a brave member of the group had to push it into the net. Once on the ground, the bear got up and casually walked away.

Be careful driving in bear country, specifically when you see a bear on a bridge.
