Question Recommend a luxury crossover SUV

I have a friend who wants to get a crossover SUV for his wife and is looking at all the luxury brands. I don't know too much about them, but I told him to checkout the Lexus because of the reputation (I believe the RX dominates sales and reviews in this class) and the MDX for the 3rd row seating and because he likes Acura's (on his second TL). He said he really doesn't want to visit 7 different dealers and would like to narrow down his options. They have two small kids (3 and 4 years old I believe) and he said he wants something nice (whatever that means... I'm guessing he means fit and finish) that's comfortable and spacious for long road trips (They travel from FL to NC once or twice a year). What's worth taking a look at?

1. BMW X3
2. Lexus RX
3. Mercedes Benz GLK
4. Infiniti QX70
5. Audi Q5
6. Acura MDX
7. Cadillac SRX

GLK, Q5, and GLK are the smallest so I would boot those right away. I have a 2mo old and we are upgrading my wife's FX35 to a Grand Cherokee for more room. Of the rest, I would go with the MDX. That 3rd row could be handy when the kids want their own space. The Lexus is also a good choice but it lacks that key feature. The QX70 is absolutely massive so I would check with the wife to see if she feels comfortable driving such a huge vehicle. I know my wife took one look at the Tahoe and said "this is WAY too big".

I thought the qx70 was the new name for the fx.. Idk.. But that's what I meant. The refreshed Jeep Grand Cherokee is nice!

Cayenne. I drove my brother's at the track last weekend and it was a ton of fun. It fits his baby seat and baby stuff well also.

I wouldn't get an Acura MDX because it is 300hp only with no V8 option.

For a big truck I would want way more power than that so it would be able to get out of its own way.

Our FX35 is only 280ish hp and weighs 100lbs more than the MDX and never felt like it was underpowered. Also, it's an SUV - it's really not meant for extreme performance.

Any reason why you didn't put that on the list? We looked at just about everything and ended up with a 2014 GC Overland. Offered the most tech for the price and the Hemi has plenty in the power department. The only thing it lacks is the 3rd row.

I'll be honest with you, I don't think he even considered Jeep. When he said luxury crossovers the usual came to mind. I'll mention though because I think it's great bang for buck and the 2014 refresh is really nice. In the right trim I think the GC is fantastic. Jeeps have good resale value too.

I'd take the MDX from that list. It's a better all around package with a great price tag to me.

FX37 or QX70 what ever you want to call it now.

325hp 267 ft lb tq

Its got good styling, comfort and probably the sportiest SUV I've driven and this includes a Cayenne S.
