Got a ticket this morning, should I go to court??
Ok, this morning on my way to school there was traffic on the highway so I took the next exit to go local, as I was getting off the ramp there was a slow moving truck in the left lane, and since the lane merges, I sped up to pass him maybe around 40mph? and then next thing I see is 4 motorcycle cops waiting to pull somebody over.... I was pulled over and the officer said "WOA you were FLYING" and I gave him like crazy look

I would have asked for proof of your speed. If I am not mistaken, don't they have to show you proof if you request it?
That sux and what a bad way to put a damper on your day. I would fight it!

In either case, 26 or 16 over, you were speeding. If you passed somebody on the right, it doesn't look any better. Going to court will not only mean wasting time, but also having the chance of having the fine increased due to any previous driving history. You should just waiver the ticket and save yourself the time and fuel costs of driving to the court house.
BTW, if you can't take an on ramp posted at 30 at least 60 MPH, then you need to work on your skills or invest in better tires. ![]() |

In Ohio, the officer does not have to show you his equipment. The necessary calibration information is written on the ticket. Better yet, the issuing officer doesn't even have to be the officer that tagged you.

If its radar go to court.. Laser PITB and pay it..
http://www.trafficschoolcatalog.com/...RadarUnits.asp Go to that site read about radar, then go the next page and print out the cross exam questions. Study them, get the records of the gun. Fight it.. Radar is so much BS. Chances are if your X50 didnt go off he might of used PoP mode which he cant use in court or he didnt use his radar gun at all. |

Get a lawyer, and also cross examined why the officer told you were going 26mph but wrote down 16mph on the ticket instead.
Never go on the witness stand but proclaimed you were driving within the speed limit. Pointed out it was the officer who "made up" the speeding number.

I think he may be confusing radar w/ laser. Motors (..aka, bike cops) generally have laser guns, not radar units. And instant-on hasn't been ruled out in court from my experience. Lastly, and officers guessimation is just as good as a laser/radar verification (...justified by officer training). In most cases the judge will side w/ the officer. |

How is a school zone another trap? I'm sure that you have been driving long enough to know that the speed changes in school zones/construction zones, and that tickets given in construction zones are generally doubled.

In maryland, if you have not had a ticket in 3 years you go to court and get 1yr probation easily with the toughest judges. (Still have to pay the $ but it saves you a couple of years of higher insurance rates). So when was your last ticket?

that guy was a dick.... if he had just given me a ticket i would have been fine. but he whent on blabing about how i was reckless and that is "radar" is so damn accurate .. but then why lower the speeding ticket?? If I take it to court instead of getting a lawyer im going to call him out and challenge it.

You can argue it in court, not w/ me. What was the posted limit? 30 mph? In your initial post, you couldn't even confirm your speed. You estimated your speed based on a curve. Furthermore, even if you were going 40mph, that's still 10mph over the limit, easily matching most officer's self-imposed limits in terms of citing motorists. Generally, 10mph+ over the posted limit will net you a ticket.
