A Shout out to the Big Brother/Big Sister Program of America!

Guys,

I recently started mentoring a 3rd grader as part of the big brother/big sister program. He is an extremely intelligent child, but comes from a challenging background. I see him a couple of times a month and I try to expose to new things (museums, sports, music, food, etc.), help him with his school work, and just be there as a good friend.

I cannot tell you how fulfilling this experience has been. It is invaluable to know that I could play a small part in helping this kid have a better future. I selfishly believe that I will get more out of this than he will.

It is a program that I highly recommend my fellow bimmerposters get involved in.

Have a wonderful weekend gents!

Cheers.

Not money, not all the gold in Knox, not anything is more important to give a child than your time.

Ya hear that all you papa bears spending hours and hours washing the car 3 times a week? Put your soap buckets away and go play with your kids!

Go find a brushless car wash and save your family.

good job bro. You'll likely leave a lasting impression on him.

This is awesome that you're doing this. And keep in mind that you might be doing more help than you even realize. I believe that lack of exposure to new (positive) things is one of the biggest reasons why many of our less fortunate kids fail to reach their potential.

It's possible that your time with the kid will change the lives of not only him, but those who he comes in contact with. This includes friends and relatives. And its very possible that you'll change the whole trajectory of his future family. I know it sounds corny, but I've seen it!

Anyone who is thinking about this, should do it. You only have to give as much time as you can.
