Car Insurance Situation - NEED ADVICE!

Hello everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind right now because of two incidents that happened to my car and I don't know how to play my cards. First is a summary of what has happened:

1) September 30th: driving on bqe, everyone slams on their brakes. Two cars back a honda accord then hits the toyota corolla behind me which then hits me. Now i have a nice hole in my rear bumper. I tried to open a claim with the corolla since he is the one that hit me but they denied it saying that I need to open a claim with the accord. I didn't write down the accord's information (I know, HUGE mistake on my part) so I had my insurance company order the police report for me. It has been 7 weeks and the report hasn't come in yet.
Status: Still waiting for police report

2) This past weekend (sometime between friday and sunday morning) I was parked in Brooklyn Heights. I walk out and somebody swiped the front of my car. Damage is to the Front bumper, driver side front fender and drivers side headlight Currently I have not done anything about this damage.

Hopefully some people here have experience in dealing with insurance companies. Auto body shop is a personal friend and will work with me to figure out best option. Any advice would be excellent. For the record, everything happened in NYS.

Thanks!

The best course of action is to get the police report and have that guys insurance take care of the rear. While your car is in getting fixed, have your insurance pay for the hit and run (?) that you should report.

Took away options because I really have no idea how to word any of this. Any advice on how you would go about it?

It's been two months and still haven't gotten it. I need a course of action where I can get things fixed without the police report for now and then work things out for once I get the police report.

Pay your deductible and get the car fixed. Leave the rest up to them, which should be their job anyway. When/if they find the guy responsible for the rear damage, you should be reimbursed some portion of your deductible

You really only have 1 option at this point. Pay your deductible if you want to get it fixed and have your insurance company chase down both the Accord that caused the first accident and the guy who swiped you. Assuming they cant find the guy who swiped you, you will still be responsible for the deductible. You should however not have to pay for the instance you were rear-ended.

if 2 other cars hit the accord , why would u open a claim on the accord if u cant open a claim on the corolla that hit you. Since the accord hit the corolla the corolla should have a claim on the honda with all their information on it.. But like someone else said. let your insurance take care of it. its their job..

even if u didnt get the accord information, u should file a claim against the corolla's insurance for damage to your rear bumper. the corolla's insurance company should pay for your damage caused by their insured. they will then (or at least they should) try to get their money spent on you, from the accord's insurance company.

this is how it would go down in california...not sure about ny's insurance laws.

as for the front hit n' run... that's a completely separate claim that you file with your own insurance company. this will/wont get covered based on whatever your coverages and deductibles and um/uim waivers are.

I learned the hard way dealing with accidents in NYC. Go to the precinct and request a copy of the report. NYPD is too laid back on filing any reports that don't include violent crimes. It will definitely include all parties info for your claim. NY is a no fault state so your insurance still pays for your repairs. It's up to your insurance company to work it out between them and the other party's insurance company.

The hit and run is a comprehensive loss so while you may need to file a police report, the insurance companies I've dealt with have always been understanding of hit and runs in the city.

Good luck

Unless you have gone down to the precinct and asked for it, you probably won't get it in the mail. When I have needed a report, going to the physical precinct was the only way I was able to get it.

Did you not get the phone number of the Corolla driver?? Doesn't his insurance company have the info for the Accord since the Corolla isn't' getting fixed or is already fixed???

Well, plan is to just pay my deductible so I can get my front end damage fixed. THen once I get the police report, I can open a claim with the corolla, get damage fixed and hopefully some of the deductible back.

Corolla driver had almost zero damage (i have no idea how), he only spoke chinese and had absolutely NO idea how to deal with anything or what was going on. He didn't bother to get info of accord and even if he did, no way I can ask him for it. He would have no idea what I was saying on the phone.

From everyones replies, looks like I might have to do a half day and go down to the precint to pick up the police report even though my insurance company ordered it. Insurance says it should take anywhere from 4-8 weeks and as of this upcoming tuesday, it will be 2 months.

Thanks for all of the replies!
