Looks good, but looks like its going to come up short on performance compared to the 335

yup...that's where audi always falls short. You need to pay the big price tag if you want a decent fast audi S4

I had higher hopes for the new A4/S4.. The ass looks like a freaking civic. I like the lights and the interior, but thats about it.

Some models look much better than others. I've never been a true fan of the A4's interior to be honest, but the rest of the lineup is top notch. I mean, the build quality, the design, the driver-centric layout, it all adds up. Try sitting in (or better yet driving) the S5 and tell me that that's not impressive. The A8 has f'in speakers that pop out of the dash!

1. what's with the crooked LED eyebrow there?
2. If 261hp isn't enough to beat the 330...261hp won't do any good competing with 328i (for those who think the a4 would compete against the 335, then the specs are even worst) |

The crooked LEDs are a bother to some extent, but I could see myself getting over them in due time.
The engine is definitely lacking, I can agree with that 100%.

I agree the engines need a boost of some sort, their only saving grace is they are torquier the BMW engines over a much wider range, it gets back to the thing that Audi prefers their cars to be more drive-able in day to day situations. |

Umm, max torque 243lb-ft @ 3,000-5,000 doesn't sound as good as the N54's (underrated) 300lb-ft @ 1,400-5,000. Not saying it's bad, but that specific top of the line A4 engine is supposed to compete with the 335i so...

Audi knows what they're doing. They're not worried about the 3.2 vs. the 335. If they were, they obviously would've added more hp.
*****Audi is using the S4 to compete with the 335 and the RS4 to compete with the M3. Hmm, I guess some ppl can't get over the fact Audi markets their cars differently. On a side note, WOW!, the new A4 is gorgeous! Compared to the E90 and the new C-Class, I'd say the Audi has the best body lines. |

+1. 335i is definately competing with the S4. Especially with the new Twin Turbo S4 coming out which is going to be very similar in performance with the 335i. I feel like the 3.2 liter A4 is in its own class or something. Its for people who want more power but think the S4 is a little too much money. Just my 2 cents.

the reason why everyone likes the interiors of audi (well at least IMO) they focus on the driver as where bmw lost that a few generations back...and plus bmw was never known for its great interiors...

That's why I like the S5^^. Just 'cause it's near-M3 money doesn't mean it needs near-M3 performance. I think I'm pretty much sold on one. There's a point where the speed needs to stop.
I wish M GmbH would start to focus on making cars fun to drive again, not necessarily faster.

The latest info for the S4 seems to be pointing at it being powered not by a turbo but by supercharger. What really difference that makes to the potential drivers of the car I don't know, but I thought it worth sharing with you.
Best guesses seem to be anything from 330hp~345hp with torque figures of at least the same if not more. If you add all of this plus DSG, sports diff and Audi select drive, I reckon what ever price difference will be well worth it as this thing is not only going to go like hell but corner like an RS4. I would class that worth the possible $10K more. |

I used to have a B6 A4 and it was a solid car - never raised my pulse like the 335 but a solid car nonetheless.
The interiors have always been nice and this new interior doesn't disappoint, but I can count at least 47 buttons/dials on the center console - WTF? I need to keep my eyes on the road with minimal distractions. Seriously, I love that my 335 has very few buttons, it is much cleaner.

You are talking a lot of sense, the S5 and A4 as the two are one in the same dash wise do have a lot of buttons but in their defence their MMI (i-Drive) is much easier to use and in being so does meant that you aren't distracted in the same way as you are with i-Drive. No doubt you and many more will tell me that i-Drive is easy to use once familiar with it but that is my point about the Audi dash, I have had it for a while now and don't even look down now and I know where all the buttons are just by touch, I would reckon I will feel the same about the M3's i-Drive when I finally get it. |
