My wife earns more than I do
I know some might have mixed feelings about this. When we first met 18 years ago she was bagging groceries. I’m proud of that fact that I married someone who worked 12 hours days; put herself through school at night while helping raise our son. We just celebrated our 15 year anniversary Now a RN her salary nearly doubles mine. She worked hard to get to where she is and deserves it!
Be honest. How would you feel if your wife’s W2 put yours to shame? |

My girlfriend is constantly sad right now that she can't contribute to our household as much as I do. When we met, she had a lot of debt that I helped her pay off. She's currently trying to get into Physician Assistant school, and once she finishes, she'll get a job out of college probably making 125-150% of what I make now. I keep reminding her of this.
On days where I'm feeling more supportive, I tell her we're investing in one another and this is what love is. On days when I want to be a dick, I tell her I'm waiting for her to get that job so I can quit mine and be a bum on the couch all day. |

I didn't marry my spouse 6-8 years ago (don't care enough to check the paper work, since it's just a date and a year, the life of boredom is daily) for his money, and he sure as hell didn't marry me for mine. We were students when we started dating, and we had absolutely nothing. Now, a few dead relatives and too much time spend playing the market, we are well off enough, and I still don't think he knows what is still coming our way.
Who gives a shit, if there is enough to go around? It's just money, the person you want to end up with doesn't even know it exists. Lups |

IMO our responses are irrelevant... how does she feel about it?
If she's ok with it and it stills bothers you then I would do something about it When my wife met me I had a steady full time job making enough for the 2 of us. When we found out that we were having kids I took it upon myself to become the head of household. in the end just be happy that's all that counts. |

What? Woman work for pay now? Lol.
Who really cares who makes more. I wished my wife was able to bring in the dough too so we would achieve our dreams in half the time. But in reality if my wife made more, then I probably should work a little harder. Just sayin. |

gender roles are r3tarded pardon my french. Don't worry about it. Sounds like your more competitive because she is your significant other, not your female wife.
If you were g a y, which u might be, and were married to a man, you would probably have just made this same thread titled "My other half earns more than I do". Either that, or I'm blatantly wrong. Discuss

I say good for her, while as a male (and let's be honest here, males are prideful) I would want to earn more than my wife BUT I would want to do so by improving myself and earning more not by hindering her earnings in anyway (I'm not saying you do, I'm just saying my thoughts on this)

SHE may begin to resent you though, if you haven't made any personal improvements. Sounds like she is working her ass off, and you are just status quo. With that drive, she may be driving somebody else too. |

I just don't get why the male should make more? A friend of mine is playing the stay at home dad role now, the wife wanted to work, and they didn't want to put the child to a day care.

No offense, but RNs do not earn all that much--certainly not enough to drive a BMW comfortably.

My girlfriend doesn't work right now. I guess I'm supposed to support her for the next 4 years while she goes to school to get in debt with student loans to be an anesthetist.
She better make more than me at that point, I need a couple years off. |

Wifey makes about 50% more than I do. Not a problem with me. She's also a recognized expert in her field with two popular reference books out. She gets invited to speak at conferences and such and we often have the opportunity to meet well known authors. I'm proud of her and don't mind being Mr. Wifey's name here. We get to do a lot of traveling and our only debt is about 5 more years of mortgage.
What's not to like? (I know, my paycheck, right?)
