I come from a lineage of really sick people and fucked up minds. I mean I can clearly point out people who's families would've been bigger now if my family hadn't played their part the way they did (civil war here 99 years ago). A teacher tried to make my kid pay because of my family last semester and it got really ugly. I've been disowned by my family for years now and I'm cool with it, my kids are too. It is quite okay coming from a broken family. It's just how you as an individual deal with it that matters

My current wife had 2 sons by 2 different fathers before age 25. I met her when the boys were 14 and 12. We've been together 18+ years, married for 12. All three of my sons are great people that I would do anything for, they aren't baggage.
