Don't like it, wouldn't buy one, but it looks so much better than I expected. The wheel flares are pretty cool.

I think the top view looks like the VW Fast bunny...

Not terrible, not great. But as stated succinctly: you don't buy a STI for the looks

I like it, actually. It will be interesting to see how this car performs against the EVO. As of now, I would chose the STi over the EVO.

Subaru's traditional weak angle is the profile. The symmetrical AWD setup puts the engine in front of the front axle, which makes for a long front overhang only matched by Audi until recently. (New Audis will have reasonable overhang)

Despite this, I think the new STI actually has a decent profile. The little air inlet on the front bumper does a good job of breaking that space and hides the length of the overhang pretty well.

The new EVO, on the other hand, suffers from the same small rim syndrome as the new Sentra SE-R. The tall body and the high beltline visually downsizes the rims by an inch or two.

I can't believe those rims are 18". This pretty much messes up the profile for me. And of course both cars have atrocious rear end design, so that's a draw.

I personally wouldn't pick the Evo over the STI for the looks. I actually think the new STI looks less ugly than the Evo, which is somethine I couldn't say about the last generation of these cars.

I went to the Subaru dealer yesterday to sit in the new WRX wagon. The interior is visually a step above the previous version but the plastic on the center console and door panel looks so CHEAP. I cant imagine shelling out 35k for a car that looks that cheap on the inside. I then sat in the back. There was no support for the bottom of my legs. I did not like it at all. I went there with an open mind and finally decided that I need something with a balance of performance and luxury and not just balls out performance.(sti, evo) So BMW, please dont mess up the pricing for me.

Nice post Spinzero!

Fortunately(or unfortunate) the 'beltline' is raising on most cars that are low to the ground due to raising crash safety standards. Thats a good point about how it offsets the wheels. Personally i don't like anything greater than 18" for many reasons.

IMO the Evo has the Sti beat in all visual categories(and maybe always has?)

The lines flow much more seamlessly
The sloping roofline complements the fender flares
The cockpit looks much more like a cockpit than a capsule(ahem sti)
At this angle the wheels seem to fill the gaps better(maybe its different cuz its in motion)
The lights are more modern and don't take as much of the 'euro' look that has dominated the market.
The hood scoop doesn't look like it can swallow a baby or be hazardous for waterfowl.
Mirrors, rims, front fascia, the list goes on...
I think what they were striving for was giving it a more of a coupe' look/feel to it. I think they succeeded.

The Evo definitely has a more aggressive look all around(good or bad)
It looks like its meant for tarmac and not dirt. I can't say it much more simple/clear than that.

All that being said i wouldn't buy either for looks.
But i would buy the Evo for the 4g63.

You're comparing a concept of the Evo with 20'' wheels to a production ready STI. If you look at production ready photo's the Evo looks awkward. Also the new Evo does not have the 4G63.

it does have 3 series like lines on the side's, you know the door leveled lines that make bmw's look so clean. You can really tell how they are trying to market this car to go up against german cars with their advertisments and certain styling points. I have to say though, the STI version looks way better than it's siblings.

People have done it for decades with the Corvette. Or the Viper. How about a Ferarri? Cheap ass interiors. At least the pre-2000 one's I've been in over the years. And to tell you the truth, the 911, which is my favorite all-rounder ever... Has a crap interior for the price.

I don't like the interior of the current STI or the new WRX at all... But it's way more fun to drive than an A4, which I think has the "benchmark" interior. A4=boring. My old GLI=competent and very nice interior, but boring. STI=loads of fun, I stopped thinking about the crappy interior after a week or two.

The 3er comes closer to a perfect compromise... Interior isn't as nice as the VAG products, but still nice (IMO). But it's a little boring. I hope the 1er isn't as boring.

That VAG-quality thing, I think, is a complete myth. They are decently made cars, but VW does an amazing job of making an interior as unappealing as possible to look at. I dont know how they are able to do that. Also, I went for a test drive of an Audi TT right before I bought my MINI and I was shocked at how plain the interior was. I was expecting a lot more.

Not saying that the 3er or 1er are perfect, but Im not buying the VAG-perfection arguments I hear from so many.

I'm gonna shamelessly bump "my" STI thread with a pic of sexy Recaro seats that JDM STI gets which we may not get here.

God I love Alcantara seats.

Remember people, this thread was here first!

As in everything, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find VAG interiors much better than BMW. For me, they are the benchmark. I personally think the VW Jetta has a nicer interior than the 3er...

I haven't been in a new Mini. I liked the old one fairly well; my wife thinks it's too busy and cluttered, but I think it was interesting and fun. It didn't feel as lux as the VAG cars, though.

I hope that the Recaros are an option. If not, I will not be buying another STi. I am not going to drop 35k+ on a car and have to immediately change the seats to something more supportive. The seats that have been posted on NASIOC are worse then most SUVs have as far as support goes. Good luck throwing it through a hard corner and staying in the seat.

I visited the mitsu dealer today. After sitting in the WRX and the base lancer I would positively pick the EVO over the WRX. I think the interior is so much more inviting.

Some specs for the 08 STI. Notice the weight and power numbers. 135i FTW!
