Alright - confirmed this morning (driving in the US)... started on the highway in traffic, with destination in the nav system, I turned on driver assist and saw a message in white text "assist plus ready"... I figured out that to activate it, you let go of the steering wheel. The system then did not require any hands on the steering wheel UNTIL traffic let up and we started going over 40mph - then saw the yellow steering wheel prompt.

So yes, for the time being, the hands-free driving only works BELOW 40 mph.
