Glad to hear. I had complications from the anesthesia and spent 3 extra days in the hospital but I'm all better from that at least now. Just healing normally from here on.

Good to know you're recovering well now. Did you have a bad reaction to the anesthesia? |

Anesthesia seems like such a benign thing, it easy to forget it involves some pretty powerful drugs. |

Yeah. It sucked is the short description. The long one was I wouldn't pass anything and wasn't constipated. My belly distended. Was hard as a rock. In order to restart my system they had to insert a pencil thick tube into my intestines through my nose, and for 3 days vacuum me clean until the rest started coming out the other side. Nurses said this is the most painful procedure they do in the hospital. They sucked out 3 liters of "stuff" through my nose. In the mean time I got via IV morphine, ibuprofen, codine, antibiotics, anti nausea, and all my meals. After I started moving things they waited 6 more hours before removing the tube. A day on liquid diet and a day of observation, then they release you. Day after that I sweat 10 lbs off while sleeping. It was my body getting rid of all the excess fluid from the IVs.
So like I said, it sucked. |

that's great. that feeling of progression is a good motivator.
I finally got into the gym yesterday. did some pull ups, dips, push-ups on one leg. tried to get on a hyperextension bench that wasn't bolted to the ground, almost dropped on my face. Got a good energy flowing lately. |

Good luck guys. I ruptured my Achilles while helping out during a Washington wizards game last year. I had 3 months to heal up for my destination wedding. The first month was definitely the worst, being that I live in a townhouse with tons of stairs, but once the boot was on things started to progress fast.
A year later, I have 100% mobility back but honestly I still feel my Achilles getting tight when I sit too long or wear dress shoes. |

Understand your pain. I did the same thing about 4 years ago. Actually I did it twice and had surgery twice. Not a good feeling and I couldn't drive my car. Hang in there

Completely detached mine in Jan of 2015. Couldn't drive my Focus ST for about 3 months. Worst part was I was stationed in Germany at the time [Autobahn]. I'm 17 months now and I gotta say I'm still not right. Still can't push up on to my toes and lots of weird shooting pains up and down, It sucks.
If you're anything like me you'll experience a fair amount of muscle atrophy and it's hard to get it back. I'm doing tons of lunges in the gym to try and get my mobility and strength back. Hope your recovery is quicker and more thorough than mine. |

thank you for sharing your experiences. to the extent possible, I try not to get preemptively stressed out about potential complications in recovery. Not always successfully. Hope I continue to recover well. the extent of leg atrophy did shock me a little. But I have my first day of therapy today and am trying to focus on getting started and putting the work in that will get me back to full mobility. |

Depends on how you heal. I had my acl done at 35. When I came to therapy first time a few days after surgery, there was a guy my age, fitness level, with the same surgery there also on crutches. He'd been doing therapy for 2 months already. I did my therapy with same therapists as him. After 2 months, I was done and I was doing shuttle sprints. Was 95%. He was still walking with a cane. I have always healed well and also it probably was due to how good our surgeons were but healing times vary greatly. If you heal well, do everything they say, including home stuff. Keep pushing it a little more each day, and you should be back in no time. After release it was 100% a month later but it took a year to feel natural again and not be in the back of my mind when doing things. Now it's better than the other one I never hurt.

Day 1 of Therapy
Good start yesterday. Focusing on just regaining mobility of ankle. Liking my therapist so far. Did some electrical stimulation, followed by massage. Then performed a series of mobility drills and a simple dynamic stretch. The towel toe curls were kind of fun. Much like crumpling a piece of paper with one hand except it is a towel on the floor and you use your toes. Deceptively challenging. All of the drills I can do several times a day. In the office writing the alphabet with my foot right now, then toe curls ![]() Second session later today. |
