Back in Turkey i do: my uncle's duty piece (he left it to me when he passed), some cash and essentials like a few black v-neck shirts and dark colored jeans and a pair of shorts and a bottle of gin because I like gin.
It's not really a "go bag" but more of a "well we're fucked, might as well go out on our own terms" bag - I geniuinely hope I never have to use it but you never know |

After the northeast blackout of 2003, I stocked up on medical supplies, MRE, a firestarter, candles, flares, fishing line/hooks, multiple knives, some botany books, water filtration and the holy trinity of protection (handgun, shotgun, rifle)
I doubt there will ever be a need for all this, but better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Yup, being self sufficient is pretty rare these days.

I didn't go through all the pages in this thread, so my apologies if this was previously mentioned... But there are online tools you can use to build bags. Example: http://www.bugoutbagbuilder.com

This is the way I've always understood the terminology. A Go-Bag is for someone who might have the need to travel somewhere on a moment's notice (usually on business). A Bug-Out-Bag is SHTF survival gear.
I don't have a BoB, so to speak, but I use a tactical style laptop bag. I spec'd out MOLLE gear that can be attached very quickly to it enabling it to become a 3-day bag in a rush. One of those MOLLE pouches is a pre-packed first aid kit with quick clot, bandages, antiseptics, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, basic pain killers, etc. The bag itself already contains two knives, two flashlights (a good SureFire and a cheap one), pens, Sharpe's, nylon straps, extra batteries for everything and two power banks. I carry anyway and have guns at the ready, so I don't have that pre-packed with ammo or anything like that. I have an EDC bag in which I carry an extra gun (my Walther PPQ M2 9mm or Glock 19), extra loaded mags for that gun, extra mags for my carry pistol (currently a Springfield EMP 4 CCC 9mm), and a duplicate of all the gear that's in the laptop bag. If I change carry pistols, I always swap out the appropriate loaded mags for the guns I am carrying as I will switch to the G19 when I feel like it. STHF and I will grab both bags. The EDC is a sling style bag so the backpack goes on the back and the EDC gets slung in front covering my chest. My Springfield Saint pistol is always ready to go with a loaded mag in it with two loaded spares. Fuck hollow points, it's got M855's in it. If shit's really THAT bad, I am going to have it in my hands as opposed to a handgun and I want the bullets going through car doors, etc. The EDC bag always has 40 rounds (in boxes) of Federal HST 9mm. Any other FMJ ammo I would need is readily available stocked in my residence. It feels good to be somewhat prepared, but realistically, I believe I am gonna die quick in a SHTF scenario, so this preparation is more about going down fighting than actually surviving.: |

I understand some people also keep a "get home" bag in their vehicle, just the things that might be necessary to get back to where their go bag or BOB is. |
