G9x Hybrid: Has anyone thought of the poor turbos?

Finally hit 2000km and was able to take the stabilisers off my G90.

So, out of eControl mode and into Hybrid for the first time.

A few observations:
  1. My understanding was that the eMotor was in the gearbox and uses the gears. It does, automatically. However, if you touch the paddles, the ICE fires up. Touching the paddles is muscle memory at the stage…
  2. The ICE is auto-started by the car under a variety of conditions in Hybrid mode.
  3. The system appears to turn the ICE On whenever the system decides it’s merited but switches it off again once those conditions cease to prevail. i.e ICE going to On does not mean it stays on for x time or y miles. It cycles a lot.

Being mechanically sympathetic I would always allow turbos to slow down before switching off the car so their oil supply is maintained.

If you go for a burst of hard acceleration in Hybrid mode the ICE comes alive… all ICE parts go from zero to high RPM instantly and the turbos are, doubtless, flying.

Then the system shuts it down again.

So, my query relates to the lubrication of the ICE itself and the turbos too… are they not spinning with no oil delivery while the car is in motion on eMotor-only post an ICE engagement? Would this not lead to excessive mechanical wear?

Perhaps the hybrid system runs an auxilliary lube supply to address this?

Also, that engine starter must be made of tough stuff to cope with its workload.

Anyone out there any informed opinion on this?

I had the same question and learned that there isn't an electric oil pump, (only electric water pump)

So what I'm doing is to assign M1 to be sportiest mode, and M2 to be EV mode. I don't use hybrid and I choose exactly when I want ICE on.

This way, I can control it and warm the engine if I'm going to be using later.
Once ICE is on temp, but switches to EV mode, it takes sometime to cool down oil temp (water cools and warms faster) so I feel comfortable switching to ICE MODE at will.

For short trips, only EV modes.

stranger things have happened but I doubt this wasn't considered in the design.

Yes, that’s one strategy.
I understand Bugatti’s hybrid leaves the engine on once it comes on at all. Not quite apples-with-apples comparison but the basics are the same.

lol...WOW. Intentional? (c'mon say it's intentional because that gives you badass cred)

If not intentional, that's something that's never happened to me before ever, but I sure as hell came close many many times. Awesome to see that it saved you.

Wow and it looks like you don't have much battery either lol !

Before that it would also reduce power a lot and give a lot of warnings, i've been there myself. Never dared to empty to fuel tank completely though.
