Hi Everyone,

Well - I watched a YouTube video that got me a little concerned ( I know...stay off YouTube..) . As I'm strongly considering buying this car in the near future, I was a bit concerned by the video below ( at minute 11 ), where the reviewer talks about the car getting away from him in low speed normal situations.

There is at least one other video of people noticing a little spin pulling out of regular parking lots, but didn't see it again - and blamed it on the cold tires. On my first G90 test drive, I also felt some very, very minor wheel slip as I pulled away from the dealership parking lot at reasonably regular speeds - but I too wrote it off to the first drive of a brand new car on totally fresh tires. That was it.

Otherwise, in my drive, the car was a rock. I loved the sense of control and "road stickiness" - things I value. In fact, I found the hard acceleration much, much more controlled than the Tesla's I've been driving. My test driving impression of the car was so positive that it felt like a great cruiser that had all the boost in the world when I wanted it. The car's control felt very safe and sturdy on the road - so this video didn't match what I'd experienced at all - but I only had a test drive.

How's the daily drive experience for those that have owned it a while in the real world. Are you finding it gets away from you or was this video an anomaly? Was my first impression wrong?

Would you be comfortable lending it to an adult friend, family member, etc.?

Advice? Thoughts? Experiences?

I have the hankook tires, as does this reviewer’s car. Yes, when the tires are cold, and making a slow turn from a stop, the front inside tire will slip just a bit. Its not like the car is overpowered or dangerous, just a quick slip. Warmer tires, I haven’t experienced it. The car is really stable at all speeds, going straight or turning, etc.

I have 1000 miles on it so far. Getting 1200 mile service done on Tuesday.

I have not yet experienced this with my G90 M5, however it happens frequently with my G80 M3cx and it has never had any consequences.

My assumption was that it is a tire thing. To be frank, given the weather where I live, the performance tires are a bit short-lived for me. I'll need something with a bit more grip, even in the summer months. There isn't very much snow around here, but thin ice can appear Oct-Through May 1.

G90 I test drove had Hankooks. Experienced zero slip in all situations, but conditions were fairly warm and dry.

My G80 6MT slips a LOT in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes a bit in 3rd

I had the same slippage early on pulling out a low speeds but it was two things 1) temperatures 2) new tires. I am nearing 3k miles now and temps have come up to 50-60s and I am loving the hankooks, and I feel they are way better than the p4s I had in my other M cars. These hankooks are sticky as hell, as everytime I get home I see stuff stuck on it like they do on slicks.

I know that’s not a popular opinion, but I have had a ton of M cars with p4s, they are simply nothing special, just absence of another option and now there is an alternative that I did not know about.

slip for me on P zeros, making a turn at 5-10mpg from stop, it just slips for a second and not all the time, 130miles and 2 slips so far.

Every single M i had slips like he explained, in the most strange situation and on low speeds. I had a lot from the G generation of M cars (X5M, M3, X6M) in the last 5 years, all of them driven on expensive tyres, changed every season. It's just a thing for those cars and you have to expect it.

Well - that sounds unsettling…..is it really random?

the car comes equipped with summer tires there basically ice pucks in colder regions i realized 1700 miles later why the car has been slipping

Common patterns that i've found so far:

- High speed, wet road, single bump makes the rear pull left.
- Low speed, sharp turn, wet road or sand/dirt over the road - rear pulls opposite on the turn direction.

In all the cases the car corrects it's self in a blink of an eye, but it's scary since you are not expecting it. Mind that Xdrive, especially in M cars is most of the time rear wheel drive.

michelin pilot sport 4s if you need all season

if not continental or michelins pilot sport 5s

Snow, ice, sleet and torrential rains driven 3000 miles, zero slippage or control issues. Car drives like a tank planted on tracks! And that’s my experience on summer s1 evo’s! Get the dang car will ya! You won’t be disappointed!

The PS4S’s were one of the tires that BMW had worked with Michelin for the star mark version for a few M cars. The star marked version (the G8x one at least) objectively performs better than the regular at the cost of thread life.

I dunno about that.. tbh, the sport cup 2’s are the best tires and everyone knows, and somehow just because p4s are Michelins got hyped up. I honestly though they were some of the worst tyres ever as they took forever to warm up and always felt hard as a rock driving on em. I am loving hankooks, I know there is a lot of hate out there, but they are soft, comfy and grippy as hell. That’s all I need. Michelins always had this “it’s a Michelin” factor and whilst driving I always used to wonder why they are so well known, maybe track performance not street? 🤔

The super sports had a star mark, can’t recall if the cup 2’s had one for BMW but I agree with you thay they’re just expensive track tires as I’ve used them on track before and it was the definition of just burning money in a few sessions. Cup 2’s did take some heating up.

To have a comfortable tire and grippy tire is a tire that has tradeoffs but it’s one I’m glad you’re happy with as I never hated Hankooks but I’ve seen a lot of forum members that will complain about not winning the tire lottery.

I can’t deny the star marked version puts down power for me much better than the non star marked version. The best tire is the one that gives you the best driving experience.
