No Highway Assitant

I was looking at the US website for BMW and it seems the g90 m5 does not have highway assistant. Even the price of the package is cheaper compared to the other models that have highway assistant. Anyone know if this is just a mistake?

I read the article, but the bmw builder says there isn't. On the builder for the 2025 m5 when you click the Driving Assistance Professional Package it only says Active Driving Assistant Pro and costs $1700.The 2025 bmw 550e says that the Driving Assistance Professional Package includes Active Driving Assistant Pro and Highway Assistant and cost $2500.

It's probably because the highway assistant is standard on the M5. The only addition would be the active driving assistant pro worth $1700.

My understanding is g90 doesn't get it for whatever reason... only option is the hands-free under 40 mph again but I'm hoping in wrong

Coincidentally, I just watched a video that said that the M5 does not have highway assist. So it can only go hands-free under 45 miles an hour. I was trying to look at this this morning as I’m getting pretty close to buying a car. Is this true can it be optioned? I can’t really see anything out there yet.

That is correct; it cannot be optioned at this point in time. I just keep my my hand on my knee and use two fingers lightly on the wheel. It works well, but, correct, it is not hands free.

Personal preference here, but even my car with true hands-free I keep some fingers on the wheel.

My car does have DAPP.

yeah I prefer the finger-touch method to hands-free with strict eye tracking

I find it a little frustrating to unpack exactly what the driving assistance does and doesn’t do a different levels in BMW.

So while it doesn’t have hands-free at Highway speeds, what’s it actually doing? Does it lane keep and keep an eye on you and all of that stuff. Is the eye tracking working to see if you fall asleep or dead? Is it like my Tesla?

In my Tesla I always have my hands on the wheel even tightly.

I actually find hands-free at highway speed a little awkward when I drive our X5. Exactly what am I supposed to do with my hands. Add slower speeds it’s a dream.

I don’t have a Tesla, so can’t comment there.

At highway speeds, it does keep your lane, follows curves, changes lanes, keeps following distance, etc. And it does it very well. But it will bark at you if you remove your fingers from the wheel for too long. Even better than my 2024 x7 that does have highway assistant (true handsfree). It’s very smooth and accurate in the m5.

Agreed on the ‘what do I do with my hands thing’. More natural (for now) for me to keep some fingers on the wheel out of comfort and my own perceived level of safety.

Wow! So that's super helpful to know that this new version is even smoother.

My rep has just located a black on black M5 available for me now ( though I don't love the rims...)...so I'm right at purchase time, so I appreciate the feedback.

Any chance anyone knows, because it has been plenty hard to find out, if the eye tracking "awareness" stuff is on at highway speeds? Is it on all the time or just when the system is active?

Thanks!!

No prob at all. Yeah the system in the x7 wanders too much across a lane. It works, but isn’t precise.

Not sure on the eye monitoring. I’ve yet to get dinged for not looking at the road, etc.

Enjoy the new ride when you get it.

In a German forum I did asked the same question, why no high assistant??? Simple explanation no room in the engine bay…

Also the general German conclusion is finger tip driving assistant is much more appreciated compared to the look in the camera one…

Feedback on the accuracy of the M5 is much appreciated, thanks!!!!

The one in the G31 isn’t always….
