Played Stonelick Hills Golf Club here in Cincinnati with the wifey for an early Father's Day date just the two of us before the crazy weekend begins.

Played the full 18 and played pretty well. Driver was working good and hitting the ball far. Wedges were good too and putting was okay. Iron game is still a joke and need a lot of help! Towards the end I was getting pretty tired. Very hot and humid while on the back 9.

Wife, who only plays 2-3 times per year chipped off of a steep hill after her drive on a par three and made it. 40ft chip...holy smokes! She was pretty much done after that.

She was my cart queen for the last 12 holes and didn't pick up a club! We had a blast together! Wouldn't have changed it for anything.

Hope to order the 6 hybrid this weekend so I can get rid of some irons. I hit my 4H beautifully all day!

Link to the course:

https://stonelickhills.com/

The golf course was very nice but not worth the price tag. $84 per person Mon-Thurs then $110 per person Fri - Sun. Its a pretty course but I have been to better around Cincinnati for half the price. We went there to also see some live buffalo but they weren't out.

Just got home from playing Troon North in Scottsdale. Between getting old, playing 3 days on the trot and the heat I am exhausted. Ended up shooting 79 with 4 over on the last 3 holes. Can't close the deal these days. Gonna see a back doctor tomorrow and maybe learn if there is structural problems or just weak and old.

The course was fun and we had a side bet going where you earn money when the last person to sink a putt longer than the flagstick. I'm on the 18th hole (a long difficult hole I mad harder hitting my tee shot into the desert but I digress) and I'm on in 4 about 50 feet from the pin. Putt drops into the hole which would have made me the big money winner. Some donut (actually a very good friend except for a few moments after this) sinks a 12 footer on top stealing my filthy lucre winnings. Argghhh.

Any how had fun and happy tomorrow is a no workout or golf day.

What was the temp in Scottsdale when you played? I can't imagine playing when its over 100.

Gotta get that back figured out. You don't realize how much you use your lower back until it hurts. I woke up with sore shoulders but was fine after moving around for a few hours.

Don't you love it when that happens? Think you have it in the bag and then, nevermind! lol

Got a gift card from my daughter / wife for fathers day and I immediately custom ordered a TaylorMade Qi35 6 hybrid Max with a stiff shaft. I couldn't wait any longer! lol

You get used to playing in 100 degrees here in AZ. But it does seem this year is harder than the past. Maybe it's age.

On the back I saw the doctor and he already told me surgery isn't needed. We are doing MRI and Xrays today to see if injections might help.

Could be age but it's still miserable to play when it's hot like that, especially when its very humid!

Best of luck with all of that today! Hopefully you aren't in an MRI tube and will be on an MRI table instead.

Thanks At least it is no contrast so no needle. I can handle the tube if I have to.

No needle is good. I have had numerous cortisone shots in my right shoulder over the years and it's amazing for 3-4 months then the temporary band aide wears off and it starts to hurt again.

I know for a fact I will need surgery again on my shoulder and to reattach my bicep that tore off last October. I can hardly raise my arm but it doesn't mess with my golf swing! That's the most important part!

So I changed my TaylorMade custom order yesterday. The wait time was over 1.5 months for the 6H, so I ended up switching it to the 7H which should be here early next week. Very excited for it! Not sure why the 6H has such a long lead time while the other hybrid heads dont...weird.

That does sound weird. I have a buddy who uses a 7H on an inch longer shaft. Probably equals a 6H. Who knows. It's all experiment and find what you like.

Lucky for me I like old school. Bag has"

Driver - Titleist
3 and 5 woods off the shelf Pings
3 hybrid - same Ping
5-PW PXG irons
50, 54, 58 Cleveland wedges
Bettinardi Queen Bee putter

And ball and glove matters IMO. Using Vice Pro balls and Fit39 gloves.

Betting I stay this course until age further degrades swing speed.

Sounds like a really good bag!

I love my Cleveland RTX6 wedges! I have those in 52, 56, 60. Been able to hit those more consistently over the last several weeks. Now, I need to learn how to put some of that spin on the ball! lol

I have thought about getting a set of woods, but having the 4H has really opened up my eyes to playing that more. I can honestly say that I hit my hybrid so much easier than my irons and I want to continue down that path with them. For example, my second shot on hole 10 this past Thursday...the pin was about 230 yards out. I hit my 4H and made it on the green. It was one hell of a shot! I have been averaging 180-200 with it. So I am a believer in the hybrid even more now!

I am curious to see how far I can hit the 7H. I have an idea but I hope it arrives before my Wednesday golf league next week so I can take it to the golf sim close to me to get an average number.

Hell...if that goes well, I might still get the 6H or even the 5H, who knows! And only have driver, hybrids, wedges and a putter in my bag and ditch all of my irons! lol!!

I don't use a glove at all. Never did with batting while playing baseball. I might get one when I play in Florida the second week of August, just so it can soak up the sweat.

I usually play with Callaway Supersoft in a matte red color or a TaylorMade Distance+ in bright yellow with an occasional Max-Fli in matte orange. I have a few bright green VICE balls that I use to hit over water or if there is water near by. But they are the cheapo kind. I never use my good stuff if there is some type of hazard that I know I will pretty much hit into! lol. I have a hard time seeing the white ball off the tee..so that is why I use color balls.

My TaylorMade Qi35 7H came in today. The loft looks kinda crazy! Excited to hit it on Wednesday at the golf sim to see what my average distance is.

Just played 144 holes last week. Whew! Dropped my handicap down to a 7.6. Driver was on fire, I hit probably 70% of fairways and kept maybe 9/10 of the rest in-bounds or at least playable vs lost OB like I usually do. Longest drive was 350+, average was probably 310. Lowest score was a 76, highest was an 83.

re: gloves - Try Hirzl.

They're REALLY good gloves, I love mine. Super durable, work well in both hot and cold / wet weather, nicely grippy.

I also re-gripped my driver and went up to a midsize grip +2, which I think helped my driving. I'm going to get the rest of my clubs regripped with mids as well now I think, it made such a nice difference. I've never used midsize grips before.

That is exciting to hear! Glad you had such a stellar week of golf! Very jealous!

I will check the gloves out! Sounds promising! Thanks! Any thoughts on golf travel bags for airlines? Everything I have seen are about $350 and I don't want to drop that kind of money.

I have been thinking about regripping my driver as well. Its pretty thin and have wondered if I put a thicker grip on there if it would generate better / consistent results. I know Bryson and John Daley have talked about that before which started to make me think.

Update on the 7 hybrid! I love it! Mind you, I was hitting in a control golf sim environment and not out on the course, but it felt great and the tear drop tracker for the ball was pure! I was hitting consistent around 150-160 and as high as 180 and as low as 130 if I need to add more or take off some. I think this would be a great club in my bag and I am pretty excited about it! Will report back tomorrow after I play with it tonight on the course.

There are 2 general types, though there are a few “hybrids” as well.

Hard -

https://www.costco.com/samsonite-har...000370707.html

+ Your clubs are virtually immune to crush and bending damage. Should last a lifetime.

- Cost. It doesn’t collapse, so storage of the bag itself is significant when not in use. TSA will always inspect it. It’s heavier, so your maximum weight allowance is reduced. May not fit in your car’s trunk.

Soft -

https://www.costco.com/pebble-beach-...000352272.html

+ Costs less. Lighter. Collapses to some extent when not in use. If you take a stand bag, there is significant extra weight and size available to pack other items.

- Greater chance of damage. However, this can be greatly reduced by packing correctly, removing driver/FW heads, packing clubs head first, and using support “sticks”, either purchased or made to size.

Thanks for the links and input. I like the soft case. I plan on putting in a "support stick" and wrapping the heads and irons in a few thick towels to add additional support. With my bag, I won't be able to put the driver / hybrid heads in first.

I had a hard case for years when I traveled and played more seriously. The size and difficulty with vehicles made me sell it and use a soft case. Always use the exact system you’re considering and never had an issue of any kind. Best of luck !

I run a Club Glove travel bag. The ability to link it to my luggage, while not completely necessary, it is helpful.

I use the same. Was at a garage sale and a woman was hosting it and there it was. A pristine Club Glove. I asked how much and when she said $5 I had to tell her what they cost new. She said doesn't matter so THEN I bought it as fast as I could shell out the money.

I might pick up the soft one from Costco! Hope it goes on sale for the 4th of July.

I like these alot! This will be my first trip where I am taking my golf bag on the airline. So I am not sure if this is as necessary.

Damn, you got the steal of a lifetime! Congrats on that! I wish golf was popular here. If I do find any golf stuff here in Cincinnati at garage sales...its all from like 40years ago.

I did. And today a friend asked if he could borrow a cover like that for a few weeks and I said certainly. And I can not find it to save my life. All I can figure is I took it to Thailand last trip and left it. But if I did WHY? I don't take clubs back and forth? Very confused.

Never did. Ordered a new one. I don't mind doing it as the old one was barely long enough to fit modern drivers. What I mind is I can not remember what I did with it. Well at least I remember why I walked into the bathroom this morning.

Damn, that is a bummer. I usually have my wife look for something if I can't find it and she is pretty much near perfect so far on finding my stuff!

Sounds like it all works out anyways so now you got a very nice golf travel bag! I plan on buying one in the next few weeks before our August 7th trip to Florida.
