RBR Review dropped this morning and thought he nailed it. The hybrid piece is what actually intrigues me since it offers a blend of raw TT V8 ICE plus Electric.

I love my F95 X5MC and not once did i think hmmm there isn't enough braking power or I wish it was lighter weight in the last 4 years of owning it. Its the best BMW i've had that can combine it all into one package.

It baffles me how there are so many race car drivers on this forum that can feel the weight difference on the race track going to work everyday.

There's other options out there for those that want zero luxury, ultra lightweight nimble sports car for track work.

Makes sense to wait for a couple of years for everything to get sorted out and refined. I am not one of the guys who want to be the first to have a new model.

And still not sold on how it looks but one gets used in time.

So I can't really get worked up over how heavy it is. I have an i4 M50 and it comes in a 5000lbs.

BMW knows how to make heavy cars handle. I'd like to see it do the "Moose Test" to see how it handles fast transitions. But as far as cornering; my M50 on 20" summer tires can easily do almost a full 1g on an unprepared on ramp.

For colors I was on the individual site playing around and just about every red, purple, brown, blue, dark greens and blacks look good. Light colors are terrible.

My absolute favorites are interlagos blue and techno violet.

So this has the same engine as the XM right? If you take a peak on that forum it’s a bit concerning. Granted it’s a very small sample size but the issues have been frequent and time consuming.

Agreed on weight, everyone says they want a light car and then complains if it doesn't have soft close doors, cooled seats and a power trunk. If you want a lightweight daily driver go buy a Civic TypeR or a 4 door E36 M3.

M5 has always been a high speed luxury vehicle and the idea of taking one to the track is actually laughable. My guess is that less than 0.1% of M5's sold will ever see a track.

Why would anyone track this car is really the question? If you have the money for an M5, likely you might be able to afford a small, cheapish track car too I would just get an M240i, put some mods on it and have fun on track.

Most reviewers seem to like it, and seems the news is better than expected

Its basically F90 M5 fast at full chap, with the added performance mid-range, and more refined ride and liveability. Nonetheless it seems to be a consensus too that it doesn't handle and is more devoid of feel than the F90.

Nice to see the positive reviews, but is the handling so awesome that we should consider adding 1,100 pounds of ballast to all our cars?

Tire wear should be interesting, although the tires are huge (285 front).

The plug-in hybrid makes sense for Europe, but for the USA it would have been great to save the weight of the large battery and have the option of a regular hybrid.

Few reviews touched on the subject of handling vs the F90 (which would be the hallmark to be compared), and those who brushed over it, said the F90 is better in handling and braking, but that the G90 is still very good.

It makes sense though.

My view, is that people's take on the G90 will vary substantially based on what car they came from, and their use of the car.

For many these will be a huge step up in practicality and liveability from the F90 (newer stuff, far better ride apparently, hybrid plug in stuff). For others it will be a huge miss as there is none of the edge of the F90, where it switches from Jekyll Hyde so seamlessly.

The news is not gloom and horrifying though like the W206 C63 AMG.

For me which my F90, is not a daily driver, and I use it to travel with family at rapid pace, or take some B roads at Porsche 911 speed, this car wil very likely be worse for me. I don't know, still need to drive it and see.

I honestly prefer it to the “everything is awesome, lets gloss over the flaws” that most reviewers tend to do. That tends to make all cars sound like uncompromised flawless creations when there are realities and downsides to everything, I just feel SG is good at presenting it in a way that would match how you feel about a car after your honeymoon phase is over with it.

Also keep in mind this is the 'regular' M5 that some reviewers are comparing it to the F90 CS. While BMW said they won't make a competition version they will 100% make be a spicier iteration down the road that is more apples to apples to that car.

Sat in it today at my dealer. What I can say is the car is huge on the outside, without any gain of interior space. It didn't feel more spacious than my G80. Trunk size is also similar. Back seat is small for such a huge car, with tight door bottom openings.

One of the things I noticed immediately was the perceived lack of quality. Outside, the paint had some of the worst orange peel I've ever seen on a brand new car.

The interior is a step backwards in every sense. Or rather, two steps back. The materials, sense of quality and features are truly disappointing. There is so much hard, cheap plastic. The piano black in the middle of the interior already looked like crap in a brand new car. Seats are cheap and feel like an insult after knowing the previous F90/X5M seats. The area below the headrest where the "M5" logo is made of some of the thinnest, cheapest, hollow plastic I've seen in a long time. If you extend the headrest, a big piece of foam suddenly becomes visible. I cannot comprehend how you can go from the F90 seat to this.

The leather also felt strange to me. They're still calling it "Merino" but the texture, look and a certain sort of "sheen" it has make it look and feel cheaper than the Merino of previous generations.

The speaker grilles for the Bowers system are fully made of plastic, and underneath the dash runs a thick strip of cheap hard plastic. The same goes for the door cards and window switch area. So much black plastic and there isn't even a galvanic option anymore.

Another thing that looks crap in person is the "glass" interaction bar running across the interior. It's made of plastic and it looks like plastic. The touch recognition of the capacitive buttons is also hit or miss.

Another thing that really annoyed me was the new iDrive controller. It is completely capacitive now and doesn't physically depress anymore. Depending on how you have your fingers set on it, it would work or not work. Or it would do the opposite of what you want. It's hard to describe without feeling it yourself but the new controller requires an abnormal amount of force to get it do something. I found myself prefering the touchscreen, which is tragic.

Overall very disappointing. I wasn't left with that feeling of "Damn, I gotta have this" like I did with previous M5s or the G80 for example. Getting back inside my G80 CS felt like a class above the new M5 with all the stitched leather, bucket seats and carbon center console.

I suspect there will be heavy discounts to encourage sales once the launch hype settles.

Of course. They need to hit all the tropes as a nod to the self-loathing BMW clan. You know the type that’s absurdly critical of every new product and think they own the last real BMW.

I'm waiting on the Throttle House review because they're hilarious and tell it like it is.

When is that coming Throttle House Thomas ?

TLDR

To summarize pretty much every review: "It drives great but it's sooooo big and sooooo heavy and sooooo expensive..."

And yet it's the same size and weight as a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid, for 50% less money, reviews of which ALSO just came out this week, and you know what's weird? While the size and weight were mentioned, those reviews were almost completely focused on the drive. Until there's a new AMG E63 and RS6/7, that Panamera is the closest thing to a competitor the new M5 has, and they're virtually identical in every spec except price. Weird how one gets a pass for being big and heavy, and that's all anyone wants to talk about for the other.
